Paul Auvil

Mr. Paul R. Auvil III has served as CFO of Proofpoint, Inc. since March 2007 and led the company’s public offering in April 2012. Prior to joining Proofpoint, he was an entrepreneur-in-residence with Benchmark Capital, a venture capital firm, from October 2006 to March 2007. While at Benchmark, Mr. Auvil evaluated a broad range of investments and advised various portfolio companies throughout the technology industry. From August 2002 to July 2006, he held the position of CFO of VMware, Inc., a global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure companies. Prior to that, Mr. Auvil served for four years as CFO at Vitria Technology, where he led various aspects of the company’s financial and business operations, executing both an initial and secondary public offering during his tenure. Earlier in his career, he spent ten years at VLSI Technology, ultimately becoming Vice President and General Manager of its Internet and Secure Products Division. Mr. Auvil also serves on the board of Marin Software, a provider of a Revenue Acquisition Management platform for advertisers and agencies. He holds patents related to digital video compression in Japan and high-speed, PCI compatible on-chip data bus in the U.S. Mr. Auvil is the Chairman of the Quantum board and a member of the company's Audit Committee, Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee and Leadership and Compensation Committee.
