Alison Wakefield

Dr Alison Wakefield is an academic criminologist based at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (ICJS), University of Portsmouth. She is Course Leader of the University's BSc programme in Risk and Security Management, and the Professional Doctorate in Security Risk Management, and divides her time between London (her main home) and Portsmouth. Alison is also Vice Chairman of the Security Institute, the UK's main member association for security professionals with over 2000 members, and a Fellow of the Institute. In 2010-11 she chaired the Institute working party that devised the pathways to becoming a Chartered Security Professional, and now serves as Academic Adviser to the Chartered Security Professionals Registration Authority. Alison joined the Institute through the merger with the International Institute of Security, having served on its Board from 2004. Alison previously taught at the University of Leicester, City University London, and most recently the University of New South Wales, Sydney. Following a Ph.D at the University of Cambridge and before moving into academia, Alison worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant.
