Siemens’ new hybrid IP cameras deliver the best of both worlds - in more ways than one

Using Siemens' Hybrid Technology, the new IP camera range offers the best of both analogue and digital, having a standard analogue connection for traditional CCTV systems and an Ethernet connector for direct connection to an IP network. But - more importantly - each of the three, new high-sensitivity cameras can also be switched between MJPEG and MPEG4 encoding to offer complete flexibility. So - as well as simplifying the choice for installers, the hybrid IP cameras also reduces stocking, as distributors now need to keep one range to cover both standards.Three new models CCIC1345, CCIS1345, CCIW1345 all support both MJPEG and MPEG4 standardsTrue digital recording over networksPlayback via standard PC video playersUser-friendly and secureThe new range comprises ‘colour', ‘day-night' and ‘day-night with wide dynamic' models for use in a multitude of applications.  High-performance CCD sensors permit very high light-sensitivity to deliver outstanding images indoors and out, day and night.Digital recording of streaming images over a network is possible in MJPEG mode via Siemens' SISTORE MX - the hybrid video recording system - or SISTORE MX NVS when using a standard PC running Network Video Software.  When in MPEG4 mode, streaming recording is possible using video codec in SISTORE CX (version 3.5).The cameras support Real Time Streaming Protocol (RSTP) and when in MPEG4 mode, video streams can be replayed on a standard PC video player.  This means they can also be integrated into existing applications very easily. It is possible to access the cameras and view the images from any standard Web browser.  Passwords, user-profiles, and integrated firewall, ensure protection against unwanted access.

Siemens IP cameras supported by Milestone open IP software

Siemens Building Technologies has recently joined the Milestone Systems' Manufacturer Alliance Programme "MAP" and has already integrated its newest range of hybrid cameras in the latest Milestone software, with more to be added throughout the year. The initiative was based on the decision for future cooperation between Milestone and Siemens to use the synergies of both companies in the fields of open IP software and high quality CCTV IP cameras.Siemens recently successfully released a new range of hybrid MJPEG / MPEG4 cameras CCIx1345, which have now been integrated in the latest Milestone software, released in December 2008. Siemens plans to further expand the range of IP camera products during 2009, including 1.3 Megapixel MJPEG / MPEG4 cameras and fixed domes, as well as IP VGA resolution PTZ domes. New models were previewed on the Siemens stand at the Security Essen exhibition in Germany last year. The new range of cameras  - which can be switched between MJPEG and MPEG4 encoding to offer complete flexibility - comprises ‘colour', ‘day-night' and ‘day-night with wide dynamic' models for use in a multitude of applications. High-performance CCD sensors permit very high light-sensitivity to deliver outstanding images indoors and out, day and night.Frederik De Meyer, Siemens Building Technologies Product Line Head CCTV, comments: "Our customers are increasingly looking towards IP solutions for their video surveillance requirements and this new co-operation will enable us to enhance what we are able to offer. We are delighted to have joined the programme, combining the excellent image quality for which the Siemens range of cameras is known, with Milestone's own excellent reputation in the high-end Video-over-IP market. This partnership will benefit our customers in their increasingly demanding IP applications."

Vectis Network video software combines performance with scalability
Vectis Network video software combines performance with scalability

Designed to meet the need for high performance network video surveillance systems that combine versatility and scalability with crisp full HD image quality, the new Vectis HX NVS software package from Security Products from Siemens allows monitoring and recording of images from up to 64 IP cameras per installed network system. For Siemens IP cameras, this innovative software also provides full remote control facilities, including PTZ control and, in addition, ONVIF support allows the connection of third party cameras that are compliant with this widely used open standard. Scalable from a single camera to a complete single or multi-site installation, Vectis HX NVS software runs on a standard industrialised PC. It uses the latest H.264 video compression technology to deliver high-quality images while minimising disk storage requirements, and to provide optimised streaming of images even over network connections with limited bandwidth. Full HD support provides exceptionally detailed images, which can be readily explored using the software’s digital zoom capabilities. The powerful search functions provided by Vectis HX NVS make finding specific images a fast and easy task. Searching is possible by time and date, by particular events, by individual cameras, and by reference to the system log. In addition, masks can be defined for filtering images while searching so that only images with activity in a specific area need to be viewed. As Vectis HX NVS is a pentaplex system, users can simultaneously record and view live images while replaying images that have previously been recorded. Alarm scenarios and responses can also be easily defined, allowing the system to, for example, automatically zoom in on a specific area and increase the recording rate in response to an alarm trigger. Despite its versatility and advanced capabilities, Vectis HX NVS software is easy to install and use. It provides plug-and-play functionality and is ready for immediate use as soon as the cameras are set up. It also offers a wide range of recording rates and resolution options, allowing its operation to be matched easily to the hardware in use.

Siemens cameras – attractive and powerful for any application
Siemens cameras – attractive and powerful for any application

Recognising the market requirement for high quality images, even under variable lighting conditions, the Siemens range of cameras offers options to meet any application. The range features conventional CCTV cameras, including hybrid IP models, fixed domes (with the possibility of migrating to IP through an optional module), speed domes and an all-in-one auto focus camera range.Applications range from retail and office environments to transportation, petrol stations and city centres. One highlight from the cameras and dome range is the new "All-in-one" auto focus cameras."All-in-one" camerasThe cameras have been designed with ease of installation in mind, featuring an all in one lens-camera-housing-bracket, with the zoom lens (up to 22x optical zoom) already connected and back focused.  As an all-in-one option, this means a complete system in a single box, with one order, less processing, shorter delivery times and on-site savings on installation time. The outdoor models have the camera with lens encased in an IP66 approved watertight housing which includes an internal heater, with even the mounting bracket and sun protection cover included, thereby making installation even easier and more cost effective. The day-night model ensures optimal picture quality, whatever the lighting conditions during the day, and when used with infrared lighting, providing crisp monochrome images at night.  There is also no need for operator intervention to switch from day to night mode - once the switch-over light level is set, this occurs automatically.Suitable application: monitoring a petrol stationA suitable application could be monitoring a petrol station.  Due to the optical 22x auto focus zoom you can easily go from a wide angle shot to a zoomed image, e.g. triggered by the lifting of the petrol pump, to get a closer view of the driver and number plate.  In case payment is not made, this could be used as evidence.
