The SRD-440 is fully compatible with the free Samsung iPOLiS MOBILE app which can be downloaded from iTunes and the Android market. It supersedes the SRD-450 and is likely to be equally popular with installers who are looking to recommend an economically priced recording solution for small retail and office environments, and particularly so where the user wishes to keep a watchful eye on their premises out of business hours. “Although priced as an entry-level DVR, the SRD-440 certainly does not compromise on quality,” said Peter Ainsworth, Senior Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd. “It is equipped with a range of impressive features including the ability to record high quality CIF video in real time across all channels, as well as single channel audio recording, whilst there is the option to record up to 4-CIF over selected channels.” The SRD-440 also provides users with the option to remotely view live or recorded video over the Internet via a browser and is supported by Samsung’s license free NET-i Viewer software which enables the centralised monitoring, control and administration of Samsung DVRs and iPOLiS network devices, even when the client has multiple sites and is using a mix of analogue and IP equipment. The utilisation of ‘network-friendly’ H.264 compression ensures the SRD-440 makes the most of available bandwidth whilst also maximising the amount of video, which can be stored on the SRD-440’s 500GB internal hard disk drive. A built-in USB slot provides a quick and easy way to extract recorded video of any important incidents. A 22 language graphical user interface has been designed to make it easy for users with minimal training to configure and control the SRD-440 and when needed, to take advantage of the wide range of search and playback options. Available from all Samsung distributors, the SRD-440 is offered with full support services from Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd., including free system design, free technical support and a full three-year warranty.

Hanwha Techwin America adds space saving 1.3 Megapixel network flat dome camera to its ‘affordable’ LiteNet HD network camera series

Samsung has added a space saving 1.3 Megapixel flat dome camera to its ‘affordable’ LiteNet HD network camera series. Measuring just 100 x 115 x 42mm, the SND-5010 is designed to provide an affordable HD video surveillance solution for environments where there may be limited space, such as in lifts, entrance lobbies, stair wells, small shops and transport applications. “As is the case with the other six models in the LiteNet camera series, the SND-5010 is ideal for applications where a large number of HD cameras may be required,” said Tim Biddulph, IP Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd. “Regardless however of the number of cameras, the SND-5010’s low price point enables it to be considered as a cost alternative to analogue cameras at locations where there may be a need to capture evidence grade images.” The ONVIF compliant SND-5010 supports H.264 and MJPEG compression methods, providing the option to simultaneously stream images to multiple locations at various frame rates and resolutions up to 1.3 megapixel (1280 x 1024) and it also supports 16:9 HD (1280 x 720) display. A number of users are therefore able to monitor live images at one location, record video evidence at another location, or view live and recorded images on a Smartphone or iPhone via the Samsung iPOLiS application. The SND-5010, which is equipped with a 3mm fixed lens, has a scene change tampering feature which creates an alert if, for example, paint is sprayed on a camera lens or if there is unauthorised movement of a camera away from its usual field of view. Despite its compact  size, the SND-5010 is packed full of user and installer friendly features, including four programmable Motion Detection zones, 12 programmable Privacy Zones and PoE (Power over Ethernet). It also has a Day/Night feature which automatically configures the camera to capture either colour or B/W images depending on the prevailing lighting conditions, and utilises third generation Samsung Super Noise Reduction (SSNR) to eliminate image noise in low light conditions to enable bandwidth and recording space savings. Fully compatible with Samsung’s license free NET-i-Viewer software, the SND-5010 has a multi–language web page for easy set up. Hanwha Techwin America provides a standard solution for visually verifying access control activity
Hanwha Techwin America provides a standard solution for visually verifying access control activity

With end-users looking for maximum benefit from their investment in security, a major objective to the success of any video surveillance system is to seek ways in which it can interact with other security systems. A major trend we are seeing at the moment is linking CCTV with Access Control systems. The opportunity to pass video, data or alarm information between these systems has obvious operational benefits. As well as providing visual verification of anyone attempting to gain access to restricted areas, there is also an opportunity to obtain valuable management information such as time and attendance records. For end-users to have confidence in the information provided by a video surveillance system and an access control system working in harmony, it is obviously important that access control events and alarms can be reliably and consistently synchronised with the relevant video. Until now there  has not been a low cost method of doing this and for many years users have suffered the frustration of finding that the video they have retrieved from a DVR relates to an event that occurred several seconds or even minutes before or after the actual event they wished to view.  However, there is some good news for end-users who are looking to gain maximum ROI from their security systems as this technology becomes more widely available. Samsung already provides, as a standard feature, time synchronisation between its fingerprint recognition, proximity and smart card & PIN based access control systems and its SRD digital video recorder range. This can also be taken onto the network by using an encoder with a built-in SD card that records an event when access is granted or denied at the access control reader, allowing users to view video via a webpage. This easy to implement and powerful feature provides therefore installers and system integrators with an opportunity to increase revenue streams, whilst offering both new and existing clients with reliable access control data, verified by high quality video evidence.

New Hanwha Techwin America Project Support Team
New Hanwha Techwin America Project Support Team

Samsung's Project Support Team has been set up in response to increased customer demand for knowledge driven help on large or complex integrated projects. The team will focus on Samsung's ability to harness the power of IP network based security solutions, whilst looking to increase the end-users' ROI by highlighting innovative ways the systems can be used for purposes other than security.End-users are increasingly expecting integration to play a key role in helping them achieve maximum return on their investment in a security solution. Samsung are therefore working towards providing system integrators with the ability to almost effortlessly integrate all the component parts of a security system. These could including intruder, fire, access control, perimeter protection and CCTV systems, as well as the opportunity to have them all interact with a building's building management system, and in the process have the freedom and flexibility to choose ‘best of breed' products.John Sayer who is managing the Project Support Team said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to head up the Project Support Team which has been established to provide hands-on support for the fast growing pan-European network of installers and system integrators who are recommending Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd's professional security solutions for large scale projects," said John. "With a complete product portfolio encompassing the very latest IP & network CCTV, Access Control and intruder detection products, the Project Support team clearly has a valuable role to play ensuring that our customers are able to specify the best complete solution for the job in hand. We will be available to offer advice and support from project conception and design, through to delivery."John has worked within the electronic security industry for over twenty years, during which time he has performed product management and pre and post sales support roles whilst with Cardkey, Johnson Controls and Maxxess Systems. John's understanding of IP network based security systems includes the design and implementation of video surveillance, access control, perimeter protection, intruder, fire and BMS systems into fully integrated solutions. The formation of the Project Support Team coincides with the introduction of Samsung's Total Security Manager (TSM) software, which enables the integration, monitoring and control of a diverse range of Samsung security systems via a single unified Graphical User Interface. TSM is packed full of features to make true integration possible and has an advanced alarm handling system which forwards information onto appropriate levels of security personnel and management, depending upon the designated importance of an incident.

Update to SAMS access control management software
Update to SAMS access control management software

SAMS, Samsung's Access Control Management software, has been updated with a number of practical and user-friendly features added. Available license-free for projects with up to 40 doors (80 readers) and 1000 users, SAMS now has a Muster Reporting feature which can configured to produce a report as to who is on site at any given time, as well as  automatically generate a list  in the event of a fire alarm activation. Also included in the latest version of SAMS is an ID badge production facility. In addition to static text and a company logo, this new feature also allows the addition of dynamic database fields. SAMS software is now fully compatible with the Samsung SRN-3250 and SRN-6450 network video recorders ensuring that high quality recorded images are always time synchronised with related access control alarm events. "This feature may not at first glance seem be very important. For many years however, users have suffered the frustration of finding that the video they have retrieved from a video recorder relates to an event that may have occurred several seconds or even minutes before or after the actual event they wished to view," said David Cawley Access Control and Home Security Products Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Limited.Samsung's RFID and biometric technology based access control systems collectively provide a cost effective solution for any access control application from single door to large building or multi-sited projects. The range is broken down into standalone controllers, single & four door controllers, readers and software, with versions suitable for standalone or full TCP/IP or RS-485 operation. Samsung Access Control range allows it to compete for projects which have up to 128,000 doors with choice reader technologies which encompass fingerprint recognition, proximity and smart card & PIN, as well as time and attendance options. Our biometric fingerprint reader capability is particularly impressive in that it can hold up to 4,000 fingerprint templates and yet has a read time of just half a second.Whilst our standalone controllers offer the ideal solution for single door security, we also provide the option to link multiple doors together over a network.  When networked, it is possible to easily share the biometric database to other connected standalone controllers without the need for a separate computer or additional software. The challenge is to ensure users can have full control over what may be a complex system and as such be able to monitor, record and retrieve valuable data which could be needed as evidence when looking to prosecute unwanted visitors who have engaged in criminal activity.  The good news is that Samsung Access Management Software (SAMS) is able to provide detailed reports on card holder activity which can be exported in Excel or PDF form for integration with other software packages, e.g. Time & Attendance, ERP or Payroll. The professional version, SAMS "Pro" does the same, but also provides additional advanced functionality, including the support of integrated access control and video monitoring to allow an operator to view video activity related to a specific card holder. The status of readers and cameras can also be monitored on a user defined map.
