The set of procedures, processes and standards designed to provide information security assurance in a cloud computing environment is termed as Cloud computing security. It is very effective in addressing physical and logical security issues across all the different service models of software, platform and infrastructure. Cloud security also addresses how these services are delivered (public, private or hybrid delivery model).
Why is Cloud security important?
The cloud's nature as a shared resource, identity management, privacy and access control are a major concern. Cloud computing security deals with the below given key threats
Data breaches - A virtual machine could use side-channel timing information to extract private cryptographic keys in use by other VMs on the same server. Designing a multitenant cloud service database properly is necessary as a single fault in one client's application could allow an attacker to get at various client's data.
Data loss – Data can disappear due to various reasons like a hacker might delete a target's data out of spite, careless cloud service provider, fire, flood, or earthquake. It can lead to serious negative outputs like impacting relationships with customers, legal issues, and more.
Account / service traffic hijacking - With access to your credentials, an attacker can eavesdrop on your activities and transactions, manipulate data, return falsified information, and redirect your clients to illegitimate sites.
Insecure interfaces and APIs – This can expose a company to security issues concerning confidentiality, integrity, availability, and accountability.
