What is Artificial intelligence (AI)?

Artificial intelligence, also known as AI or machine intelligence (MI) is intelligent behaviour by machines. AI behaviour is demonstrated when a machine can imitate the 'cognitive' functions associated with human thinking and behaviour, such as learning and problem solving.

AI is on the brink of revolution in every industry, including security. It has been suggested that in the future robots will perform the majority of jobs that humans do today, for no pay and with no holiday or sick leave needed. 

One area of security that AI will have a direct effect on is video analytics, including object recognition. It is predicted that the amount of metadata AI will be able to collect will be significant, including people's identity, age and gender. Video analytics will therefore be able to leverage AI to collect vast amounts of useful data.
