Ultra Wide Angle lighting for Dome Cameras
Ultra Wide Angle lighting for Dome Cameras

A range of illuminators designed specifically for use with fully functional domes have been launched by Raytec. The new illuminators, available in Infra-Red or White-Light, provide ultra wide illumination up to 180° and provide installers with professional lighting solutions for domes for the first time. The traditional problem with dome lighting is that illuminators cannot be fitted to move with camera as they do on a traditional PTZ system. Consequently, to cover the full field of view of the camera up to 360° illumination is required. Given the narrow angle of most Infra-Red illuminators this has been expensive, requiring 8 to 12 illuminators. To-date dome lighting solutions have been a compromise of cost versus performance and lighting has been designed to monitor key areas rather than providing full coverage: A compromise leaving key areas dark and prone to attack. The new RAYMAX (IR) and RAYLUX (White Light) products launched by Raytec can achieve 360° coverage from two uniquely designed ‘Adaptive Illumination' lamps. Each individual illuminator provides vari-focal lighting that can be set between 120-180° on site, perfectly suited to the wide angle illumination needed for fully functional domes. Other angles are also available as standard.David Lambert, Marketing Director of Raytec, commented, "We are committed to providing installers with innovative lighting solutions and with the RAYMAX and RAYLUX 120-180° illuminators we are providing a solution to ensure fully functional domes work at night. With these solutions installers can provide Infra-Red or White-Light solutions for any dome camera".Further information and practical tips covering illumination for domes is included in Raytec's Complete Guide to CCTV Lighting.
