3xLOGIC, Inc., a leading provider of integrated, intelligent security solutions, and a three-time Deloitte Technology Fast 500 winner, has announced that Northwest Church of Christ in Dayton, Ohio was broken into recently and Sonitrol of SW Ohio, using technology from 3xLOGIC, worked with local law enforcement to apprehend the intruder and prevent damage or theft from the facility. The church is located in a rough part of town, with a large homeless population. Church of Christ has installed multi-sensor devices connected to the Sonitrol Central Station to provide an active, visible deterrent to break-ins. Unfortunately, the church was undergoing renovations, and someone left a door unlocked. Multi-sensor intrusion detectors Immediately upon entering, the perpetrator was detected by the multi-sensor devices and the Sonitrol Operator was able to verify the intrusion within seconds using motion, video, and audio sensors and then contact the dispatcher for local law enforcement. The church is a large building with many entrances, so responding police officers needed all the assistance they could get. The Central Station Operator provided a steady stream of information updates to ensure real-time coordination with the law enforcement officers on the scene. The operator was able to guide the police to the suspect’s exact location, give a description of the suspect, and facilitate an apprehension before there was any damage or loss of assets. In addition to the multi-sensor devices, the church has a number of 3xLOGIC outdoor cameras tied to a VIGIL NVR. “This was a great success story,” commented Alison Shiver, Marketing Manager, Sonitrol SW Ohio. “The church was quite pleased with this apprehension, because it sends a clear message to the neighborhood: don’t mess around, you’re going to get caught!”
3xLOGIC, Inc., a provider of integrated, intelligent security solutions, and a three-time Deloitte Technology Fast 500 winner, announced Ted’s Pawn, located in Norwood, OH, has successfully been using Video Verification technology to reduce false alarms and catch the bad guys before they’re able to gain entry to the store and adjoining storage lot. “Ted’s Pawn has been a long-time customer for us,” explained Wayne Lisle, VP and GM for Sonitrol SW Ohio. “They’ve had analog video surveillance for about eight years, and we had been utilising audio verification of alarms for the inside of the store. The outside lot was a different story.” Eliminating false alarms The Ted’s Pawn outdoor lot is filled with vehicles, motorcycles, boats, and more—high value items Ted’s must protect. “We wanted to do video verification for the lot,” said Lisle, “but until recently there were many challenges: complicated installation, connectivity, reliability, and eliminating false alarms.” Enter 3xLOGIC technology, “Now with a 3xLOGIC hybrid DVR, we can use analytics to associate existing outdoor cameras—two cover the yard, two cover the shop’s roof—to the Sonitrol panel and seamlessly provide video alarm feeds to our Sonitrol central station to detect and verify any threat. Going forward, Ted’s can install IP cameras and even thermal cameras to the existing network covering the lot.” In the most recent incident at Ted’s, the Sonitrol operator received a video alarm feed showing a man entering the outdoor lot. The operator dispatched police and the suspect was apprehended in short order. “One of the most important aspects of our business is taking care of our customer’s valuable items,” said Ralph Tincher of Ted’s Pawn Shop. Sonitrol Verified Video Security Tincher continued, “One of the ways that we’ve taken the extra step to ensure we’re taking care of their precious goods is partnering with Sonitrol Verified Video security. Years ago, at our former location we had a break-in. The thief was able to get into the building and do some damage. After talking to other members in our industry, we found out there are ways to catch thieves before they get into your building.” “Here at our new, larger location where we deal with a lot of high-dollar items, we’ve had three attempted break-ins in the last six years. Every single time, thanks to Sonitrol verified video, powered by 3xLOGIC technology, those thieves were caught before they got anywhere near to entering the building,” Tincher recounted.
Larry Hyatt chose 3xLOGIC cameras to increase surveillance capability for his shop’s perimeter and real estate 3xLOGIC, Inc., a leading provider of integrated intelligent security solutions, today announced that Hyatt Guns, the largest gun speciality store in the US, has deployed 3xLOGIC thermal cameras to significantly increase security for the store. Sonitrol Carolinas installed the thermal cameras and oversees video monitoring of the cameras and other ongoing needs. 3x LOGIC surveillance capability Hyatt Guns, located in Charlotte, NC, features more than 7,000 guns in stock on any given day, making it the largest specialty gun shop in the United States. After opening its doors in 1959, it has been in the same location and remains a family business to this day with three generations of the Hyatt family working there. Larry Hyatt chose 3xLOGIC cameras to increase surveillance capability for his shop’s perimeter and surrounding real estate. “I don’t want a picture of the guy that broke into my store, I want to catch the guy,” said Hyatt in outlining his clear security goals. “Our camera feeds go straight to the Sonitrol monitoring company, that gives us the edge. The way the bad guys are doing crime, they know after breaking in that they have a number of minutes before the police arrive. Thermal cameras with around-the-clock monitoring give us a timing edge,” explained Hyatt. Crime prevention with thermal cameras The 3xLOGIC thermal cameras were installed at Hyatt Guns in June 2016. “We’ve had numerous positive alarms, Sonitrol Carolinas confirms movement and calls the police. We were using regular video surveillance but it was no good at night. Thermal cameras are a great prevention tool.” "Gun stores are a high-priority target for crime, and we wanted the best system available" “Gun stores are a high-priority target for crime, and we wanted the best system available. In the firearms industry, part of our licensing requirement is that we have to be responsible business people and not let any of these guns out of our store without proper vetting. We’ve got a huge responsibility to make sure these guns do not get into the wrong hands.” “We’re very satisfied with the current system. When the cameras trigger, I get the call too, and I can help prevent false alarms. We need to keep the false alarms to a minimum so we can help the police increase their effectiveness and efficiency. These thermal cameras are a great product, I can sleep at night knowing we’re protected, and that they’re not going to call me unless it’s important. 3xLOGIC and Sonitrol Carolinas has saved me many a trip to the store at 3 am,” Hyatt concluded. The 3xLOGIC thermal cameras have served Hyatt Guns so well that they are looking at expanding the number of thermal cameras to provide coverage to new areas around the store. In this way, they are always staying one step ahead of the bad guys.
Insights & Opinions from thought leaders at Sonitrol Security Services, Inc.
Lower-cost thermal cameras are becoming attractive for more applications every day. Thermal cameras have long been known for their ability to “see in the dark” by sensing temperatures of objects and displaying a video image of temperature variations, but previously their high costs limited their appeal to mostly high-end or military applications. Now lower costs are expanding the possibilities. In particular, combining thermal cameras with video analytics drastically lowers the number of false alarms, including alarms caused by shadows and shifting light, car headlights, trees blowing, and small objects that don’t affect thermal images. Thermal cameras also produce images without regard to fog or rain, so they’re perfect for outdoor applications. A new entry will step into the thermal camera fray at ISC West this year. 3xLOGIC, previously known for their cloud-based access control, video and business intelligence software, will be launching a low-cost IP thermal outdoor camera with features like built-in storage, easy setup using a QR code, and embedded analytics that automatically self-adjust to simplify the analytics setup process. (Analytics are provided by a partner in the United Kingdom.) VIGIL Server software compliant The camera also has embedded VIGIL Server software to allow it to be run as a stand-alone device recording video to an onboard memory card. It is therefore compatible with 3xLOGIC’s VIGIL software suite including VIGIL Client, VIGIL VCM (central management), VIGIL Mobile and VIGIL cloud applications. Plug-and-play installation allows access to video using a standard web browser, VIGIL Client or mobile device or tablet. The camera is also being integrated with other video management systems (VMS). “Our new camera moves thermal into markets where you would have never even thought of using a thermal camera, never used a thermal camera before,” says Charlie Erickson, Vice President of Product Management, 3xLOGIC. “New lower-cost thermal sensors integrate easily with camera systems, and it brings thermal into areas where it was previously just too expensive.” 3xLOGIC’s new thermal network camera The new Visix camera line is a departure for 3xLOGIC, which previously has focused on software and cloud-based systems rather than hardware. [The company has previously sold an OEMed line of visible light cameras.] The new camera was designed in the United States; the thermal sensor is manufactured in the U.S., and the camera is being assembled in Korea. A 206x156-pixel camera with a 36-degree angle of view will be introduced at ISC West, and additional cameras in the line are coming, including a narrower view (20 degrees) to achieve more distance and a wider view version for larger areas. Higher resolutions will also be added to extend the range. (Thermal cameras require less resolution to identify a target than visible cameras.) The first camera in the line will have an MSRP of $999 (with a 50 percent or more margin for dealers). 3xLOGIC will sell the camera through its existing 200 dealers, including national and regional integrators. Ideal for outdoor security applications The new camera can easily stand alone in many applications, says Erickson, and it will be helpful to central monitoring stations whose operators handling video verification are inundated with a crippling (and expensive) number of false alarms. (3xLOGIC has an agreement to provide technology to Sonitrol central stations.) Erickson estimates the company’s existing cloud video and business intelligence businesses represent only about 10 percent of where the camera can be used – the rest will be new uses outside the current 3xLOGIC customer base. Combined with 3xLOGIC’s VIGIL business intelligence software, a thermal camera works well with people-counting applications, for example. Another use case is electrical substations, where thermal capabilities provide an early alarm if a transformer is overheating, among other benefits. Mounted on the roof of a cell tower, a thermal camera can trigger a visible light source to flood the area if motion is sensed, thus discouraging intruders.
