QNAP Systems, Inc. has released the QSW-1208-8C (twelve-port) and QSW-804-4C (eight-port) 10GbE/NBASE-T unmanaged switches to help home and small business users upgrade their networks to accommodate 10GbE speeds for bandwidth-demanding tasks. The NBASE-T-based switch delivers a cost-effective solution for improving network performance while using existing Cat 5e, 6 and 6a cables. The QSW-1208-8C has twelve ports, including four SFP+ (fibre) and eight SFP+ (fibre)/ RJ45 (copper) combo ports while the QSW-804-4C has eight ports, including four SFP+ (fibre) and four SFP+ (fibre)/ RJ45 (copper) combo ports to ensure an optimised investment in 10GbE networking. The QSW-1208-8C and QSW-804-4C are also backward compatible with legacy devices and support the IEEE 802.3az (Energy Efficient Ethernet, EEE) standard for reducing power consumption while maintaining high network performance and quality. "The QNAP unmanaged switch series is excellent for home and small business users," said Ken Cheah, Product Manager of QNAP. "The versatility of these 10GbE switches allows users of 10GbE-equipped QNAP NAS and virtually all 10GbE/NBASE-T-ready servers to fully leverage the high-speed potential of their devices, services, and infrastructure for greatly improving workflows and enhancing day-to-day tasks." Near-silent operationThe QSW-1208-8C and QSW-804-4C can function as a desktop-based or rackmount-based solution The QSW-1208-8C and QSW-804-4C can function as a desktop-based or rackmount-based solution (a free rackmount kit is included in the package). Both switches feature a sleek modern design to blend in with other devices in digital homes and offices. The smart fan mechanism enables efficient heat dissipation to ensure high performance while staying near-silent for minimising background noise. The following are the key specifications: QSW-1208-8C: 12-port (4 SFP+ fibre ports, 8 SFP+/ RJ45 copper combo ports) QSW-804-4C: 8-port (4 SFP+ fibre ports, 4 SFP+/ RJ45 copper combo ports) Dual desktop/rackmount; 5-speed (10GBASE-T/5GBASE-T/2.5GBASE-T/1000BASE-T/100BASE-TX), IEEE 802.3az compliant. The QSW-1208-8C unmanaged switch is available; the QSW-804-4C will be available in April 2018.
QNAP Systems, Inc. rolled out the TS-328, the first quad-core 3-bay NAS that allows for building a RAID 5 array using only three drives. Compared with 2-bay NAS that only allow for building RAID 1 arrays, the TS-328 provides the choice of RAID 5 and can optimize available space while providing high data protection. The TS-328 provides feature-rich multimedia applications and video transcoding capabilities and is an ideal solution for home users to centrally store, backup and manage files and data. Enhanced data storage and protection 30% of QNAP NAS users prefer using RAID 5 arrays to benefit from optimized storage capacity, higher performance, and data protection. QNAP’s first 3-bay NAS allows entry-level users to build a RAID 5 array on their NAS for a more cost-effective private cloud storage solution. The TS-328 also supports snapshots, allowing for users to quickly recover data in the event of accidental deletion/modification or ransomware attack. “High data security was the primary design concept behind the TS-328. Potential users looking for an entry-level NAS can now benefit from RAID 5 configuration and snapshot protection without breaking their budget, while the transcoding and multimedia applications also provide a fantastic multimedia experience. Coupled with an elegant appearance that merges into home environments, the TS-328 is the most budget-friendly RAID 5 NAS for home users,” said Dan Lin, Product Manager of QNAP. Hardware decoding and real-time transcoding The TS-328 is powered by a Realtek RTD1296 quad-core 1.4 GHz processor with 2GB DDR4 memory and provides two 1GbE ports with SATA 6Gb/s for up to 225 MB/s read/write speeds. Featuring H.264/H.265 hardware decoding and real-time transcoding, the TS-328 can convert videos to universal file formats that can be played smoothly on mobile devices. With the QVHelper, Qmedia and Video HD streaming applications, users can easily stream media files to devices throughout their home and to their mobile devices when on the go. Featuring the latest QTS 4.3.4 operating system, users can easily view and backup the content of their mobile devices to the TS-328 by plugging it into a USB port. The built-in App Center also provides a wide range of applications: “IFTTT Agent” and “Qfiling” help automate user workflows for improved efficiency and productivity; “Qsirch” provides full-text search for quickly finding files; “Qsync” and “Hybrid Backup Sync” simplifies file sharing and syncing across devices. Users can also download Qphoto to their mobile devices to take photos and record videos and have them directly saved to their TS-328. Key specifications TS-328: 2GB DDR4 RAM 3-bay tower model; Quad-core Realtek RTD1296 1.4 GHz processor; hot-swappable 2.5/3.5-inch SATA 6Gbps HDD/SSD; 2x Gigabit RJ45 LAN ports; 1x USB 3.0 port, 2x USB 2.0 ports; built-in speaker.
QNAP Systems announced the launch of its newly-revamped QNAP License Store. The new License Store has been designed to provide QNAP users with a convenient licence purchase experience. Purchasing QNAP NAS application licensees has been greatly simplified, and customers have various online payment methods to pay for their orders. Using QNAP ID (QID) accounts further streamlines the licence purchase procedure and provides the benefits of managing all of the NAS application licences through the QNAP License Store. QNAP License Store provides following NAS application licences: QVR Pro: Comprehensive network video recorder (NVR) for QNAP NAS. exFAT Driver: Allow a QNAP NAS to access exFAT-formatted devices. Surveillance Station: Use a QNAP NAS as a professional network video recorder system. McAfee Antivirus: Scan your QNAP NAS using the acclaimed McAfee antivirus engine. To use the new QNAP License Store, users must be using QTS 4.3.4.0483 build 20180213 (or later). If the QTS firmware version is 4.3.4.0435 (or older), compatible licences can only be purchased from the original QNAP License Store. For users who have already purchased licences from the original License Store, after they upgrade the firmware to QTS 4.3.4.0483 build 20180213 (or later), they can choose to migrate their existing licences to the new versions from the new License Store.
