Mitsubishi Electric and Nozomi Networks to expand operational technology security business

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement with Nozomi Networks Inc., a developer and distributor of operational technology (OT) security solutions, to jointly pursue OT security initiatives including marketing and technical development.  As part of the agreement, Mitsubishi Electric has acquired an equity stake in Nozomi Networks. OT security solutions Mitsubishi Electric will integrate its factory automation (FA) equipment and OT security solutions with Nozomi Networks' OT network visualisation and intrusion-detection technologies to create OT security solutions that enhance both robust security and continuous system operation. In addition, comprehensive OT security measures ranging from visualisation/intrusion detection to network defense and remote access will be realised by incorporating the products and technologies of Mitsubishi Electric partners TXOne (since December 2023) and Dispel (since February 2024). Digital manufacturing Mitsubishi Electric offers one-stop OT security solutions to protect manufacturing sites from cyberattacks By providing more secure environments for the use of OT data, Mitsubishi Electric aims to accelerate digital manufacturing using data throughout entire product lifecycles, from design and installation to operation and maintenance, and thereby strengthen the company's Circular Digital-Engineering business. Mitsubishi Electric offers one-stop OT security solutions to protect manufacturing sites from cyberattacks. IT security technologies The company has extensive experience with IT security technologies for various industries including finance, and in-depth knowledge of control equipment and systems, especially for manufacturing, which it provides through a full range of services, from assessment and consulting to countermeasures and operational support. Nozomi Networks, a global pioneer in OT and IoT security, provides OT security solutions for a wide range of customers in fields such as manufacturing, energy, transportation, and critical infrastructure. OT network and endpoint-visibility Nozomi's offerings include OT network and endpoint-visibility technologies and intrusion-detection technologies Specific offerings include OT network and endpoint-visibility technologies and intrusion-detection technologies for OT environments. Nozomi Networks has a strong presence in the United States, Europe, and Japan. "OT security is essential to the ongoing digital transformation of Mitsubishi Electric's business," said Kunihiko Kaga, Mitsubishi Electric's Representative Executive Officer, and Industry & Mobility Business Area Owner. Circular Digital-Engineering "Combining our manufacturing-control and information-system security technologies with Nozomi Networks' visualisation and intrusion-detection technologies, we look forward to creating secure OT environments and advancing the use of data across society." "By fusing knowledge and co-creation both within and outside the Mitsubishi Electric group, we are committed to transforming into a Circular Digital-Engineering company capable of contributing to a safer, more secure, and more sustainable society." Integrating data and analytics "Mitsubishi Electric and Nozomi Networks share a vision about how the right data and analytics can unleash important operational and cybersecurity improvements."  "In today's threat environment and economic conditions, critical infrastructure operators around the world need both more than ever," said Edgard Capdevielle, CEO of Nozomi Networks. Advanced cybersecurity solutions "We are proud to partner with Mitsubishi Electric and their team of innovation pioneers and honoured to have their investment." "Together we will deliver advanced cybersecurity solutions that can scale easily across heterogeneous industrial and critical infrastructure environments." IoT and digital transformation Onsite equipment and systems are increasingly being connected to the internet and other networks as manufacturing facilities and infrastructure shift to IoT and digital transformation, which is raising the importance of security measures for OT as well as IT. OT security encompasses diverse control devices, such as programmable logic controllers and robots, making it increasingly challenging to fully understand entire systems and ensure continuous system operation. Such complexity makes it difficult to apply uniform security measures and to easily stop or disconnect a system when an anomaly is detected.

Mitsubishi Electric focuses on heat potential of data centres at Data Centre World 2024

Mitsubishi Electric will again attend the Data Centre World Exhibition at the London ExCeL Centre from the 6th to the 7th of March 2024, to showcase its advanced range of data centre solutions. At the show, Mitsubishi Electric, a pioneer in IT cooling solutions, will introduce a new approach to the overheating challenge by looking at data centres as useful energy sources and exploring ways to apply otherwise wasted heat to other applications. Data centres in decarbonisation “Data centres have the potential to be a key part of the decarbonisation of heating in the UK,” explains Simon Prichard, Product Strategy Manager for the company’s advanced range of IT Cooling and Central Plant. He adds, “We are fast approaching the day when data centre managers can sell off the heat from essential cooling to keep nearby offices and apartments warm.” Energy Re-use Factor (ERF) The most common measurement of power usage effectiveness (PUE) is reaching its practical limits As data centres are significant energy users, they face increasing pressure to find energy savings, with the most common measurement by power usage effectiveness (PUE) reaching its practical limits. Finding further savings is an ongoing challenge, and currently, the Energy Re-use Factor (ERF) is becoming a vital consideration in the operation of data centres. This measures the amount of re-used energy a data centre can provide, divided by the electrical energy used. Re-using waste heat “We’re using Data Centre World to launch a white paper on how data centres can be at the heart of the UK’s low carbon heat,” said Simon Prichard. He adds, “Around 40% of UK carbon emissions are produced from space and water heating, so re-using waste heat from data centres can make a big difference.” IT Cooling range The technology used in IT Cooling is advancing rapidly, focusing on selecting cooling technologies Mitsubishi Electric’s IT Cooling range is designed exclusively for the unique working environments of data centres, where wide variations in humidity levels and the need for constant temperature control are business-critical all year round. The technology used in IT Cooling is advancing rapidly, focusing on selecting cooling technologies to match building requirements while meeting energy-reduction targets. MEWALL On the stand, the team will demonstrate the workings of MEWALL, Mitsubishi Electric’s data centre fan wall, using virtual reality to transport visitors to the company’s IT Cooling production facility in Italy for an exclusive first-look tour. MEWALL will be ideal for high-density data centres or hyper-scale applications where maximum cooling duty with minimum power input is required, as it offers high performance, flexibility, and reliability. Key features  By changing the airflow convention, MEWALL is designed for horizontal airflow at scale It also benefits from easy and fast installation, space-saving optimisation, and a low investment cost per kW, making it the perfect solution for hyperscale and colocation data centres. By changing the airflow convention, the unit is designed for horizontal airflow at scale, allowing for taller heat exchangers, with elevated water temperatures, improving performance over conventional designs. Critical Power Division Mitsubishi Electric’s Critical Power Division will also be sharing the stand. The Division supplies medium and low voltage distribution solutions, UPS, energy management, data visualisation, and a host of other operational software to data centres.
