Cognex Corporation, a pioneer in industrial machine vision, has released the In-Sight® 3800 Vision System. Designed for high-speed production lines, In-Sight 3800 offers an extensive vision toolset, powerful imaging capabilities, and flexible software to deliver a fully integrated solution for a wide range of inspection applications. “The In-Sight 3800 offers twice the processing speeds of previous systems, performing tasks like a quality inspection in as little as one-third of a blink of the eye,” said Lavanya Manohar, Vice President of Vision Products, adding “This added power allows users to maximise throughput and accommodate faster lines while delivering the high accuracy that they have come to expect from the In-Sight product line.” IS3800-Eyeshadow-classification This new system is embedded with a comprehensive set of vision tools that includes Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based edge learning technology and traditional rule-based algorithms. Easy-to-use edge learning tools solve tasks with high variability and are set up in minutes with just a handful of training images. The industry-proven rule-based tools are well-suited to solve deterministic tasks with specific parameters. Customers have begun using the In-Sight 3800, with impressive results. 50% faster We were under the assumption that the processing time of the In-Sight 3800 would be 30% faster" “When we selected Cognex, we were under the assumption that the processing time of the In-Sight 3800 would be 30% faster than the current In-Sight 7900 vision system being used,” said Nicolas Chomel, Technology Development Director at SIDEL, a major provider of equipment, services and complete solutions for packaging consumer products. Nicolas Chomel adds, “However, during qualification tests, the In-Sight 3800 proved to be 50% faster in our application.” IS3800-Vial-OCR In-Sight 3800 is powered by In-Sight Vision Suite software, a common platform across all In-Sight products, which offers both EasyBuilder® and Spreadsheet development environments. The intuitive, point-and-click EasyBuilder interface guides users step-by-step through the development process, making it ideal for simple or common applications, while the robust spreadsheet interface enables finetuning of job parameters for advanced or highly customised applications. Easy modification “Flexible development options allow users to easily modify their application for new or changing requirements,” said Lavanya Manohar, adding “In doing so, In-Sight 3800 offers a scalable solution for addressing both current and future, factory automation needs.”
Cognex Corporation has expanded the capabilities of its In-Sight® 2800 vision system to include optical character recognition (OCR). The new ViDi™ EL Read tool, powered by edge learning technology, deciphers human-readable characters on reflective, low-contrast, and non-flat surfaces with ease. Ease-of-use “The In-Sight 2800 with edge learning redefines ease of use, allowing anyone to deploy AI-based applications regardless of experience level,” said Lavanya Manohar, Cognex Vice President of Vision Systems. “ViDi EL Read replaces complicated programming with example-based training, making it simple to set up OCR models to read characters on challenging surfaces and even multiple lines of text simultaneously.” OCR solution Medical device and pharmaceutical companies can verify dates and lot codes to ensure vaccine efficacy and compliance The easy-to-use OCR solution helps food and beverage producers to easily read expiration dates, even on curved surfaces, to verify freshness and prevent consumer recalls. Medical device and pharmaceutical companies can verify dates and lot codes to ensure vaccine efficacy and compliance with medical standards. Electric vehicle manufacturers can quickly locate and read the alphanumeric text laser etched on the bottom sides of EV batteries to improve traceability, and logistics facilities can decipher codes and text on a variety of package types to ensure proper routing and prevent rework. OCR applications OCR applications can be time-consuming to set up, requiring hours of programming by highly trained engineers, preventing many companies from automating this type of inspection. Using the ViDi EL Read tool, models are set up and deployed directly on the device in minutes with as few as 10 sample images. Real-time feedback The accuracy of the results is measured by a confidence score that is displayed below each of the trained characters offering real-time, visual feedback and reassurance of reliable traceability across the supply chain. The In-Sight 2800 vision system was first released in April 2022 and was designed to solve complex classification applications. Additional tools are currently in development and scheduled for release in the coming months.
