VeriFinder combines fast and accurate threat detection with calibration- and maintenance-free operation |
Symetrica is to launch a handheld radiation detector that combines high-accuracy, high-speed threat detection with the cost benefits of calibration- and maintenance-free operation. The lightweight and easy-to-use VeriFinder™, which will be officially unveiled at Security & Policing 2016, is already being deployed by leading European customs authorities. The next generation handheld detector is ideal for first responders, border officials, security staff and other professionals who need rapid and reliable radioactive threat verification.
'In-the-field' detection ensures miminal false reports
Built around Symetrica’s proprietary Discovery Technology®, the VeriFinder radio-isotope identifier (RIID) supports enhanced ‘in-the-field’ decision making by ensuring mobile detection and identification of radioactive threats with the minimum of false positives and false negatives. The unit supports simultaneous identification of multiple isotopes in 30 seconds or less – exceeding the performance requirements of the ANSI N42.34 standard for handheld identification equipment. A patented stabilisation system eliminates the need for ongoing calibration and annual maintenance.
VeriFinder weighs only 1.85kg and offers the simple, intuitive operation demanded in high-pressure threat situations. The three-button interface can be used with a single gloved hand and user alerts include audio, vibration, LED and information on the built-in display. Comprehensive connectivity options and system-health monitoring provides data in real-time to both users and remote operations.
Housed in an ergonomic waterproof and dustproof IP65-rated case and capable of operating over a wide environmental range (-32C to 50C / 3-98% Relative Humidity), the rugged unit is suitable for deployment globally. A Li-Ion battery offers up to eight hours of use and can be recharged from mains or vehicle power.
Capable of scanning inaccessible areas
The VeriFinder is built on Symetrica’s Discovery Technology, the market leading solution for handheld identifiers that is also at the heart of the Smiths Detection RadSeeker handheld radiation detectors for which the DHS Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) recently awarded an IDIQ (indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity) contract with a maximum value of $143 million for the technology, its maintenance and associated training.
Commenting on the VeriFinder announcement, Dr. Geraint Dermody, Symetrica’s Director of Business Development, said: “The VeriFinder adds the ability to scan inaccessible areas, which is an essential new capability within an integrated detection framework. The ability for the unit to continuously calibrate itself ensures consistently high levels accuracy and the option to network multiple detectors, as well as high levels of uptime and the lowest total cost of ownership.”
The Security & Policing Home Office event is aimed at police, law enforcement and security professionals and showcases world leading technologies, products and services to police services, government departments, organisations and agencies from both the UK and around the world.
