Sophia Hatzelmann is the winner of this year’s Engineer Powerwoman award. She accepted the award – carrying a prize purse of €5,000 – at the opening event of the WoMenPower careers conference. The Engineer Powerwoman award represents Deutsche Messe’s tribute to women from the STEM disciplines whose commitment, ideas and work have made an innovative impact in the technical environment at their companies. The award was presented for the sixth time at this year’s WoMenPower conference.

Sophia Hatzelmann was also involved in the ‘FRAUEN unternehmen’ (WOMEN enterprising) initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and TechnologyVeteran in automotive and mechanical engineering industry

Chaired by Dr. Barbara Schwarze of the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, the jury saw in Sophia Hatzelmann a woman who was not only a successful engineer and entrepreneur, but who was also involved in the ‘FRAUEN unternehmen’ (WOMEN enterprising) initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, which had her appearing at schools and universities. This, the jury said, made her an example for girls and women interested in technology and engaged in a corresponding career track.
