QNAP Systems (QNAP) has introduced a highly-efficient and cost-effective solution that enhances Internet of Things (IoT) applications by utilising the powerful features of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud to deliver a hybrid architecture IoT and edge computing solution.

With edge computing and IoT quickly emerging as the next wave of cloud computing, QNAP has leveraged its strong hardware and software integration capabilities to incorporate AWS Greengrass as part of its hybrid architecture combining cloud and local devices for an IoT and edge computing solution.

AWS Greengrass is a software that allows businesses to run local compute, messaging, data caching, sync, and machine learning (ML) inference capabilities for connected devices in a secure way.

With AWS Greengrass, connected devices can run AWS Lambda functions, keep device data in sync, and communicate with other devices securely – even when not connected to the Internet. AWS Greengrass seamlessly extends AWS to devices, so they can act locally on the data they generate, while still using the cloud for management, analytics, and durable storage.Users can store the massive data generated by IoT applications on their QNAP NAS for local filtering, and filtered data can be relayed to AWS for data analysis

AWS Greengrass authenticates and encrypts device data at all points of connection using the security and access management capabilities of AWS IoT Core. This way, data is never exchanged between devices when they communicate with each other and the cloud, without proven identity.

IoT application management solutions

QBoat Sunny is a dedicated single-board IoT mini server made by QNAP to specifically meet demands of various IoT applications and environments. QBoat Sunny allows customers to seamlessly manage and monitor IoT applications, devices, and data for a streamlined and highly-efficient IoT development experience. QBoat Sunny can also be used as an edge computing node, and AWS can be seamlessly extended to on-premises environments with AWS Greengrass installed on QBoat Sunny.

QNAP's QIoT Suite Lite is an IoT application for on-premises environments that leverages AWS Greengrass to provide numerous benefits in an integrated solution. Users can store the massive data generated by IoT applications on their QNAP NAS for local filtering, and filtered data can be further relayed to AWS for subsequent data analysis to realise a cost-effective and high-performance IoT application.
