An assessment of the savings potential for each use case is made possible by dormakaba’s Door Efficiency Calculator, a scientifically validated tool that provides architects and building planners with reliable data for sustainable decisions.

With MotionIQ, dormakaba is revolutionising the process of opening and closing automatic doors. The centrepiece of the new technology is an intelligent system that analyses and controls door movements in real-time.
The system precisely adjusts the door movement to the user's approach speed. This means that the doors do not open any earlier than necessary and close as quickly as possible. Air exchange through open doors is minimised – a decisive step towards reducing heating and cooling energy losses.
Energy savings
Compared to conventional door activation sensors, MotionIQ reduces the unused open time of doors by up to 50%. The result: significantly reduced energy loss, lower operating costs, and CO2 emissions, an extended door life, and safer operations.
MotionIQ, which was previously only available for swing doors, is also available for automatic sliding doors and will be shown for the first time at BAU 2025 together with the automatic energy-saving sliding door ST PRO Green, which has fine-framed, thermally separated profiles.
Example: drugstore
The advantages of MotionIQ are illustrated by a sample calculation for an average-sized drugstore in a city in a temperate climate zone, such as in Western and Central Europe.
In a scenario with approximately 800 visitors daily, six days a week, and an interior temperature of 19°C, using MotionIQ technology alone can avoid a good 25% of CO2 emissions compared to a conventional door system. At the same time, the investment in this technology often pays for itself within just two years through savings in heating and air conditioning costs.

This calculation of the energy, CO2, and cost efficiency of entrance door solutions is based on the Door Efficiency Calculator (DEC) of dormakaba, which was developed and validated in collaboration with ILK Dresden.
