Ex-Olympian, Author, and Journalist, Matthew Syed, has been announced as a keynote speaker at Infosecurity Europe 2023, the most influential information security event.

Syed will take to the stage on day two of the event, which is running from 20-22 June 2023 at ExCeL London, to delve into the concept of ‘black box thinking’ and the connection between mindset and high performance.

Continuous improvement

Syed was the England table tennis number one for almost a decade and is a multi-award-winning journalist for The Times and The Sunday Times and a regular contributor to television and radio. He is also the author of seven bestsellers on high performance including Black Box Thinking, Bounce, The Greatest, and Rebel Ideas.

The latter brings to bear insights from psychology, anthropology, and data science to uncover the best-kept secrets of the world’s most successful teams. Syed specialises in guiding organisations to build a mindset of continuous improvement in our fast-changing interconnected world.

Performance mindset

How cognitive diversity and black-box thinking can be a competitive advantage in the fight against cybercriminals

Syed will take to the stage for a presentation on ‘black box thinking’ at Infosecurity Europe at 10:00 on Wednesday 21st June. Visitors can expect to learn about unlocking their untapped potential and how adopting a performance mindset can accelerate innovation and future-proof the organisation.

His talk will cover how cognitive diversity and black-box thinking can be a competitive advantage in the fight against cybercriminals.

Cyber security awareness

Nicole Mills, Exhibition Director at Infosecurity Group, comments, “Every year we strive to bring a variety of inciting, inspirational and innovative speakers to the stage, not simply to share cyber security awareness, but to set the tone for the event and explore critical ideas."

Nicole Mills adds, "Matthew Syed is yet another vibrant example of how different worlds collide, but how mindset and the ability to adapt, collaborate and drive innovation, can help secure a future-proofed environment.”

Innovation and improvement

Mistakes and failure should become an opportunity to adapt and grow and share learnings

Syed will touch on the importance of collaboration and how organisations should avoid institutionalism and open themselves up to change and diverse thinking.

Mistakes and failure should become an opportunity to adapt and grow, and sharing those challenges and learning from them, allows for innovation and improvement.

To quote my book, ‘Black Box Thinking’ is about the willingness and tenacity to investigate the lessons that often exist when we fail, but which we rarely exploit. It is about creating systems and cultures that enable organisations to learn from errors, rather than being threatened by them,” commented Matthew Syed, Author, and Journalist.

Cyber security analyst

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the news of a raft of reputed speakers including, champion sprinter, Michael Johnson and cyber security analyst and author, Keren Elazari, as organisers continue to unveil a stellar line-up.

Visitor registration is open for the 2023 event and cybersecurity professionals and members of the infosec community are invited to sign up and secure their place.
