The Security Industry Association (SIA) National Capital Region Security Forum (NCRSF) – a community of D.C.-area security professionals representing industry and government – has revealed the details for its ninth annual charity golf tournament.

The event will take place Monday, 3rd October 2022, at the Mount Vernon Country Club in Alexandria, Virginia.

Proceeds from the annual golf outing will benefit the work of the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s centre for Brain Injury Recovery to support traumatic brain injury research and care for children and adolescents and improve the lives of those affected.

Authority comment

I was immediately inspired by the Kennedy Krieger team, their knowledge and capabilities and their commitment to providing innovative and quality patient care following my recent visit to the Institute in Baltimore."

"It is an honour for SIA to present the NCRSF golf tournament that was established following the caring treatment provided to a member of our extended security community while he was under the care of Kennedy Krieger,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson.

Our industry has an extraordinary history of supporting programmes to save lives. I am convinced there will be a very high level of participation in this year’s tournament.”

Supporting Kennedy Krieger Institute

The SIA NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament supports the work of the Kennedy Krieger Institute

The SIA NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament supports the work of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, an internationally recognised institution located in Baltimore, Maryland and dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with paediatric developmental disabilities and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system.

The tournament was established in 2014 to support longtime SIA NCRSF member David Sawczuk following his family’s life-changing rehabilitation experiences with the institute.

Sawczuk’s experience

In 2007, Sawczuk’s son Benjamin – who was eight years old at the time – was struck by a car while riding his bicycle alongside a road. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for 23 days before undergoing months of extensive rehab therapy with the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s paediatric brain injury programme and making a healthy recovery.

After completing inpatient rehabilitation at Kennedy Krieger, Ben attended the institute’s Specialised Transition programme, a neuro-rehabilitation day hospital, for seven months.

Ben went on to graduate from high school, then college—exceeding all expectations and prognoses. To date, the SIA NCRSF charity golf tournament has raised over $450,000 in donations toward the centre’s brain injury research, patient transition efforts from hospital to home and urgently needed wheelchairs.

Sawczuk expresses gratitude

Sawczuk states that It’s hard to put into words the immense gratitude he has for Kennedy Krieger

It’s hard to put into words our immense gratitude for Kennedy Krieger and the miracle they produced in terms of Ben’s recovery,” said Sawczuk.

Every day, the centre is inspired to work tirelessly for enhanced treatments, prevention, education, community support and possible cures for a wide spectrum of disorders and injuries."

"Each year, we give back to this premier institution in partnership with SIA and NCRSF because they gave so much to us.”
