Aperio wireless access control was installed by Heidelberg's Olympiastützpunkt Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar to protect the 800 squads who use the facility
The mechanical key management system has been replaced by ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless locks

Security at one of Germany's leading Olympic training facilities has been transformed by ASSA ABLOY. Heidelberg's Olympiastützpunkt Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar has installed Aperio® wireless access control to protect the 800 squads who use the facility.

The Olympiastützpunkt Metropolregion is one of 19 elite centres across Germany, and is used as a training venue for future Olympians and Paralympians in 13 different sports, including boxing, swimming and athletics.

Laborious day-to-day management of an old-fashioned mechanical master key system has been eliminated by the switch to an electronic access control system using Aperio® wireless locks from ASSA ABLOY. “The system provides noticeable relief from the time-consuming management of keys. It also provides added security in the residential area, fitness centre and swimming pool areas,” says Daniel Strigel, Director of the Olympiastützpunkt Metropolregion.

Harald Johannsohn, whose company installed the system, said: “With the online wireless escutcheons at entrance doors, the customer is provided with a solution in real time. Users also operate the offline cylinders on a variety of interior doors using the same card. Therefore, the solution is truly tailored.”

To make the transition as seamless as possible for the athletes, existing Germany sports ID smartcards with integrated MIFARE RFID chip were encoded with access rights to the new doors at the facility.
