Enhanced security in our nation's schools presents a set of challenges DVTeI is very familiar with: DVTel has more than 20 advanced network video installations at the high school and university level- Columbine and other violent school incidents changed everything.  No longer ran a Superintendent or Principal be content with a few cameras recording to outdated VCR technology.  The good news is that most school districts have IT or other personnel who are Familiar with lP network technology and how integrated network video management systems can offer schools a level of performance and cost effectiveness not seen before.

The Challenge

Far too many school districts today are stuck with a lot of security hardware that doesn't fit together, work effectively, and cannot meet future security management demands Yet, no Superintendent has a blank check to just get rid of everything and start over.  Most schools face the same set of security challenges and objectives:

  • Reduce theft and vandalism and provide a demonstrably safe environment for students and staff. Effectively cover multi-buildings, campus environments with a single-system that offers centralized viewing, playback, and recording.
  • Provide remote access for school administrators, and just as importantly for approved law enforcement.
  • Leverage and integrate into existing IP networks and legacy equipment.
  • Do all this and more, and accomplish these objectives within tight budgets and time lines.

The Solution

DVTel's Latitude Network Video Management System (NVMS) is an enterprise-level IP video and audio monitoring, recording and storage solution that provides seamless audio and data transmission and management across an IP network while integrating with existing equipment end systems.  The Latitude NVMS:

  • Uses economical, off-the-shelf computer, networking, and storage systems.
  • Acquires unlimited video, audio and data intelligence to improve decision-making effectiveness.
  • Combines in one GUI information from access control, building automation, HVAC, motion tracking, license plate recognition, human resources, and many more.
  • Is an IP-based, software solution with the flexibility, scalability, and integration potential to be trulyfuture-proof

The Highlights

  • For the 6,700-student Edwardsville School District in Illinois, the Latitude NVRS delivers excellent performance, a cost savings of $110,000 over original plan, and a system that is future-proof in term's scalability and flexibility.
  • Christian Brothers High School installed 72 cameras strategically located to maximize surveillance areas. The DVTeI NVMS allows a user from any location on the campus to pull up any camera at any time. The DVTeI platform gives them the freedom to choose from a range of storage solutions, so they don't have to buy a specific storage component to fit the system.  Unlike an inflexible DVR, CBC's network video system is highly scalable - anytime they want to add a camera, they just purchase a software license.
  • Ramapo and Indian Hills School District in New Jersey installed more than 140 cameras at the two high school campuses. Richard Edwards, Director of Technology is pleased with the results, "We wanted an IT- based solution to maximize performance but stay within our budget.  With DVTeI, we cover our expansive grounds without running a lot of cable, which would have cost us a fortune. We got the flexibility and performance we need, and we saved a lot at money."
  • Wall Township School District comprises seven school buildings and serves a K-12 community of 4300 students and 700 teachers and staff In addition to meeting the district's initial system and cost requirements, staff have been impressed by the system's Features users can simultaneously view up to (IS) cameras on a screen; multiple users can view the same camera simultaneously, video data can be efficiently viewed and extracted; the digital data is easy to back up each day; users experience will control with an easy to operate GUI graphical user interface).
  • John Hutchison, VP of Christian Brothers on DVTel effectiveness, "The system has exceeded our expectations. All our students are provided with laptops, and we have the ability to zoom in on what a student is looking at on their screen to ensure they're using their computers properly - that's very powerful.  Even though the cameras are discreet, they are effective, extended arm of the administration."
  • Ramapol / lndian Hill's Edwards highlights another DVTeI feature, "We wanted a system that combines pro-active and reactive capabilities.  On the pro-active side, we have excellent coverage of key areas and the ability to access cameras anywhere along the network but also over the Internet, so we can provide law enforcement with the access they might need."
