DCH Paramus Honda: Security challenge

DCH Paramus Honda is a new and certified pre-owned Honda dealer in Paramus, N.J. In the past, the dealership faced significant challenges with regards to security.

“We are located near a high-risk neighbourhood and, unfortunately, our security inefficiencies were quickly realised,” said Brian Lam, General Manager, DCH Paramus Honda. “The dealership was targeted by thieves, and some incidents were drastically worse than others. One specific time, 20 catalytic converters were stolen, worth approximately $2,000 each.”

Changing tide

Frustrated with inventory loss, DCH Paramus Honda set out to purchase a security solution to serve as a deterrent and capture valuable video evidence to quickly solve cases.

It deployed Visentry’s Virtual Sentry solution, which leverages HD video surveillance cameras and intelligent analytics from ioimage™ by DVTEL to detect threats. Once an issue is detected by the ioimage analytics, Visentry is notified.

“Each camera is equipped with ioimage video analytics, which creates a virtual fence,” said Juda Slomovich, COO, Visentry. “When an individual crosses the perimeter, the ioimage analytics alert our monitoring station, where an operator can gain more insight on the threat as it is happening in real-time.”

“The high level of information we are able to provide is very effective in helping police catch any criminals and quickly close cases,” Lam said.

The ioimage difference

A world-class technology, ioimage by DVTEL is the industry leader in outdoor intrusion detection. Its intelligent video analytics are deployed successfully across the globe and is proven in a variety of environments.

All ioimage analytics are edge-based, delivered in cameras and encoders. The analytics are easy to install and set-up using a Web browser and DVTEL Latitude NVMS software.

An issue with many video analytics that track motion is the prevalence of false alarms. Environmental factors often trigger alerts, and users waste time and money allocating resources where they are not needed. ioimage analytics recognise when environmental factors trigger alarms. For Paramus Honda and Visentry, this means events are only triggered when the virtual perimeter is breached. The low rate of false alarms enables the delivery of affordable and reliable live monitoring and crime prevention.

Eliminating crime with intelligence

Once Visentry’s Virtual Sentry solution was installed, the dealership immediately experienced a significant drop in theft.

“I can’t recommend Visentry and ioimage enough,” Lam said. “We had severe problems with theft that quickly disappeared with the help of their technology and services. Visentry told us their first objective is to ensure that all criminal activity stops and they’re true to their word.”
