ASSA ABLOY was entrusted to provide the most secure and convenient door solutions
ASSA ABLOY provided electric mortise locks and door closers to the centre

ASSA ABLOY New Zealand was proud to contribute to the completion of the Carteron Events Centre in the Wellington Region of New Zealand’s North Island by providing cylinders, electric mortise locks and door closers from the Group brand Lockwood.

By incorporating the public library built in 1881 into the overall design of the new multipurpose centre, Opus Architecture has created a link between Carteron’s past and future. The events centre is also very flexible in that its 300-seat auditorium can be divided so that four or five events can be hosted simultaneously.

To achieve this flexibility, Opus Architecture and the local lock specialist, Henry & Kemp entrusted ASSA ABLOY to provide the most secure and convenient door solutions. Gabe Penjueli, Arcitectual Consultant at ASSA ABLOY New Zealand, explains: “In the main foyer and public area of the events centre, the surrounding external walls and some doors have beautifully designed murals. We had to specify less obtrusive hardware and door closers on the internal parts of the doors. The Lockwood 2516-SS-cam-action closer was ideal because of its sliding door arm, which causes no issue when the doors are opened into an adjacent concrete column”.

In addition, security has been guaranteed by using a combination of Lockwood 3570-series cylinders and electric mortise locks. By combining the Lockwood 1800/1900-series plate furniture with the popular 70 lever in addition to Lockwood 142 entrance handles, the architects had the ability to customise the door fittings to match the building’s design. This was a factor of considerable importance as the building incorporates both historic and contemporary design features.

Gabe added: “By providing the door hardware specification and solutions for this significant and high-profile project, we have staked our claim as a specialist supplier for characterful events centre.”
