As a result of completing this training, Europa security team is accredited to carry out tasks including confiscating alcohol and cigarettes from young people
CSAS helps to forge strong and effective working relationships between police and the business community

The Europa security team at Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter has successfully joined a scheme to help local police tackle crime and disorder in time for the busiest shopping period of the year.

Four of the Europa security team at the shopping centre have undertaken training under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS), which allows Devon and Cornwall Police to accredit certain minor powers to staff or organisations that are committed to making communities a safer place.

As a result of completing this training, staffs are accredited to carry out tasks including confiscating alcohol and cigarettes from young people, issuing fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, littering and graffiti or acting in a way likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. Certain traffic powers are also permitted, such as directing traffic or requiring a vehicle to stop.

Mike Kerswell, Europa Security Manager at Princesshay, said: “We hope this training will further equip us as a team to work in partnership with the local police force to help keep the centre as safe as possible. We are often first on the scene at incidents and this training will help us assist the police in a mutually beneficial way, particularly as we head towards the busy festive period.”

Inspector Paul Morgan of Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We are delighted that Princesshay has joined us in this successful scheme. As well as providing important safety accreditation for local businesses, the scheme helps to forge strong and effective working relationships between police and the business community.”
