Oncam 360-degree camera to be integrated with IP VMS and PSIM solution

Oncam, the global innovator in 360-degree technology and security solutions, has been awarded a contract for Glasgow-based Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Video Management Systems (VMS), which is also based in Glasgow, selected Oncam Grandeye’s technology and will be the integrator on the project. The cameras will be controlled and managed through Titan Vision, VMS’ IP CCTV video management and PSIM solution.

Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum opened in 1901 and is one of Scotland’s most popular free destinations. It has 22 themed galleries that display an astonishing 8,000 objects, brought together from across Glasgow Museums’ rich and varied collection, which is a Recognized Collection of National Significance. The displays are extensive and wide-ranging, from Dutch masters to Van Gogh, to collections of armor and even Salvador Dali’s “Christ of St. John of the Cross.”

Tom Gallacher, the museum’s security manager had several concerns:

  • The south entrance has a long, narrow passageway, followed by two stairways on either side. One 360 camera sees it all and is able to prevent loitering and vandalism.
  • Gallacher employs another camera at the north entrance, which has the same layout but with the addition of a statue that is the occasional target of graffiti. The third camera covers the entire gift shop protecting it from shoplifters.
  • Each camera is discreet and replaces the ugliness and expense of having 3-4 cameras to cover the same zones.

“If an incident occurs, we can review what happened up to the moment in detail,” says Gallacher. “This helps with the management of the museum’s security service, and makes everything we do more efficient.”

VMS Sales Director, Tony Sinden, said, “The Oncam 360 camera is popular with our customers above all for two reasons: the forensic capability of reviewing a recorded scene in detail, and the efficiency of replacing several cameras with a single, unobtrusive device.”
