Alpro’s overhead transom closers hydraulically controls the opening and closing of aluminium doors
The Alpro transom closers are being installed on doors manufactured by Heritage Window Systems

Transom door closers from Alpro Architectural Hardware are being installed at Stanmore Place, a luxury landscaped residential project of over 500 apartments in north-west London.

The Alpro closers are being installed on doors manufactured by Hampshire-based Heritage Window Systems which are ‘thermally-broken’ meaning that temperature transfer through the doors is minimised by use of a polyamide thermal barrier. This energy efficiency contributes to the green credentials of the housing development which is aiming for maximum environmental-sustainability.

Alpro’s overhead transom closers are a means of hydraulically controlling the opening and closing of aluminium doors. Builders and glaziers benefit from the ability to adjust the latching and closing force created by the hydraulic valve according to the weight and height of individual doors as well as type of usage.

Transom closers are contained within the transom header bar of a door. They are therefore well suited to use at premium architectural developments such as Stanmore Place where aesthetics are paramount and visual appearance must not be compromised.

Keith Parry, Divisional Sales Manager at Alpro, said: “The thermally-broken doors will lower heating costs at the development. Along with measures such as enhanced wall insulation and solar panels, this will reduce the carbon footprint of residents. Our transom closers are designed for durability and have been tested independently at 250,000 double-action cycles.”

Heritage Window Systems have supplied doors from their Smart-Wall screen and door system which has profiles for all types of ground-floor screen work where enhanced thermal performance is required. The system meets the requirements of the UK government’s ‘Document L’ legislation on thermal transmittance which is seeking to make buildings more energy-efficient and reduce carbon emissions by one million tons per year.

Smart-Wall is one of the best performing fully-thermally broken screen and entrance door systems in the UK. The solution is manufactured entirely at Fordingbridge, England, meaning that bespoke requirements and short lead times can be met easily.
