MyTravel has recently installed the Fastlane Glassgate, from Integrated Design at its corporate head office in Rochdale.  MyTravel Group is one of the UK's leading holiday and leisure groups, and includes names such as Airtours and Going Places.

Initial Electronic Security Systems (IESS) drew up a plan to secure the entrance, limiting access to the building to only authorised staff and visitors; as such an access control system and turnstiles were required.  The appearance of the main entrance was a key issue, as MyTravel wanted to keep an ‘open feel'.  Also two lanes were required, including a DDA-width (UK Disability & Discrimination Act) and a standard-width lane.

Fastlane Glassgates were recommended by IESS, as the Glassgate has a glass barrier, which operates in a user-friendly ‘door-like motion' allowing for quick acceptance by new users.  The system was integrated seamlessly with Diester proximity access readers inside the pedestals, to ensure the most discrete finish possible.

The Fastlane Glassgate is a state of the art speedgate that combines IR detection sensors for tailgate detection and glass barriers to control access.  The Glassgate's bi-directional swinging glass barrier intelligently controls traffic flow whilst maximising throughput and the IR tailgate detection offers excellent protection against unauthorised entrants.

MyTravel required a DDA-width lane; the Glassgate comes with a single barrier for standard lanes and a double barrier lane was added to the system to create a wider passage for DDA compliance.  Safety beams monitor the area near the barrier; if an object is detected in the path of the barriers, they slow to a crawl until the obstruction is removed.  The Fastlane Glassgate can integrate with a fire alarm system so that in an emergency the barriers automatically open in the exit direction to allow for free emergency egress. In a power failure, the barriers can be gently pushed out of the way.

"Everyone at MyTravel has been very impressed with the new Fastlane Glassgates, which greatly enhance the corporate image of our reception area.  The staff fully appreciate the need for additional security measures and the fast throughput has meant that people aren't inconvenienced by the new system." Said David Thew, Group Property, Procurement & Facilities Director at MyTravel.
