G4S Technology introduces the Javelin - a new range of card readers designed and built to look good, be user friendly and reduce environmental impact. The Javelin sets the standard, not only for its green design and build but also through its technological capabilities.
The features of the Javelin card reader range have been thought through to provide high security, modern design and usability. The Javelin is one of the first card readers on the market to offer a four line graphical display with a customisable text option available in 10 languages.
A bright three colour LED light bar clearly displays door status. For those requiring complete flexibility the Javelin also offers a graphical mode providing card reader status and user instructions through clear images. The card reader also benefits from large well spaced tactile keys with the customary raised ‘bite' on the five key as a touch aid. In addition to visual aids the Javelin reader also provides audio annunciation, providing an ascending and descending sequence of function sounds when a card is successfully presented.
Most facilities requiring a high level of security prescribe the use of a PIN code. Where necessary, the Javelin allows users with low manual dexterity to be excluded from the need to enter a PIN. Alternatively they can use an additional slave card reader which can be located at a convenient height for wheelchair users and have a longer card read range using a different card technology.
The door unlock period is adjustable for each Javelin card reader and can be user specific, allowing for longer unlock time periods to be set for those with mobility difficulties or doors in warehousing areas. An audible tone will sound if the door is held open beyond the allocated unlock period and an alarm will be raised on the security management system.
Power consumption for the Javelin can also be reduced by up to 65% as the card reader is supplemented by a ‘half sleep' mode - which times out the display and keypad backlight after a prescribed period of inactivity, or a ‘full sleep' mode which turns off the display and keypad completely until a card is presented. The Javelin card reader has been designed, developed and manufactured at the G4S Technology facilities certified to the internationally recognised environmental standard ISO14001. All packaging is fully recyclable and when the card reader reaches end of life all components of the reader itself are 100% recyclable.
Javelin card readers are compatible with the Symmetry range of Access Control and integrated security systems available from G4S Technology. Ideal for existing Symmetry customers looking to upgrade their hardware, the Javelin card reader range has been designed to utilise the same back plate as the existing Symmetry card readers, enabling a hassle free upgrade.
