HID Global’s network access control and biometric reader solutions have been selected by the Dental Council of India (DCI) to streamline their time and attendance management system

HID's SmartID and EDGEPlus E400 IP-based access controllers have been installed at 290 dental colleges across India

HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, announced that the company's network access control and biometric reader solutions have been selected by the Dental Council of India (DCI) to streamline their time and attendance management system.

The new, centralised identification system with biometrics also increased overall security by eliminating the potential unauthorised use of access cards.

The DCI deployed SmartID™ and EDGEPlus™ E400 IP-based access controllers in over 290 dental colleges across the country, and the new solution enables the DCI to both monitor their database in real-time and centrally record faculty attendance, resulting in a 50% savings in operational costs and fewer human errors.

HID Global and OEM partner Rasilant Technologies provided a standardised central identification system that authenticates cardholders' identities using biometric technology that ultimately eliminated inaccurate accounting of attendance and also reduced errors in salary calculation. The web-based system also enables up-to-the-minute record transmittal to a central server, avoiding the falsification of records.

The DCI had faced a number of challenges in access control, staff attendance and salary management using its manual attendance and payroll system. Some of the more common issues included unauthorised entries and "buddy punching" where a colleague would record the attendance for absent faculty members.

"We are pleased to provide the Dental Council of India a central management system for their colleges nationwide,"  - Ranjit Nambiar, South Asia, HID Global

"The system ensures that faculty in each college are authenticated in real-time, allowing college authorities to streamline their courses and schedule for the students. With the help of biometric technology, we were able to achieve complete security, hence the possibility of any misuse was eradicated," said Dr. Anil Kohli, President of the Dental Council of India.

The goal of the project was to forward the council's vision of ensuring education in dental colleges around the country is fairly distributed. The solution provided a critical attendance function for faculty members visiting other colleges and supports government guidelines by ensuring they only taught at their designated colleges.

"We are pleased to provide the Dental Council of India a central management system for their colleges nationwide," said Ranjit Nambiar, Director of Sales, Identity and Access Management, South Asia, with HID Global, "HID's SmartID SB10 biometric readers enhance college security by verifying cardholders' identities with both a card and fingerprint template. Additionally, HID's EDGEPlus E400 controllers seamlessly integrated with RFID readers and our partner's management software, offering robust reporting that is essential for organisations with vast geographical coverage like the DCI."
