Banco de Nordeste implements centralised access control in all entrance points thanks to HID Global
HID Global, trusted leader in solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced that the company's credential and reader solutions have been selected by Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB) to reinforce its access control system for physical access at their administrative offices headquartered in Fortaleza, Ceará. With the objective of increasing their card security, BNB also took advantage of the company's Corporate 1000 Programme, where the smart cards were programmed by HID with a unique identification number for tracking during the entire production process in order to prevent card duplication.

In addition to selecting HID iCLASS® contactless smart card solutions, Banco do Nordest engaged the services of the Brazilian integrator Interactive Tecnologia Ltda. who suggested HID iCLASS R10 /RWK400 keypad readers and the iCLASS RWKLB575 biometric reader to meet the bank's  rigorous  security requirements. These readers, the HID smart cards, and software from the Brazilian manufacturer Commbox Tecnologia, replaced the old proximity system, providing the stringent security needed to form the ideal platform for controlling access to strategic points of BNB's administrative offices.

"Our corporate security policy is based on three pillars: trustworthiness, integrity and availability, and during our market research, we found that HID Global is praised for these principles," said José Boileau, Executive Manager of Corporate Security of Banco do Nordeste do Brasil.

The HID cards are used intensely throughout the bank today for access to high security areas or as the photo identification credential for employees and BNB is completely satisfied with the HID Global installation. "There have been no installation or availability problems recorded and also we have not had problems with the performance of the products. It is a robust solution," said Boileau. "Previously, it was not possible to generate access reports since we did not have the precise information on who entered each area. Now we can analyse access to various areas in detail."

Now we have a reference point to implement a centralised system of access control in approximately 200 banking agencies across 13 states and in the Federal District

The positive results from the installation have motivated Boileau and his team to speak of the future. "Now we have a reference point to implement a centralised system of access control in approximately 200 banking agencies across 13 states and in the Federal District," said Boileau.

With the 2014 World Cup ahead, Banco do Nordeste will face a new challenge given its close proximity to the games taking place at Castelão stadium in Fortaleza. "The access control for all entrance points will be adapted to the new traffic conditions, and gates and automatic turnstiles will be installed for greater security. HID and Commbox's solutions will be essential for this next step," said Boileau.
