INSIDE Secure, a leader in embedded security solutions for mobile and connected devices, announces that it will give a presentation on ‘Things you need to know about digital security’ at the Digital Tech Summit on April 23-24, 2014 in London (UK).
The Digital Tech Summit, an initiative of the Tech Tour and the International Venture Club, focuses on showcasing the best investment opportunities within the digital industry in Europe.
Remy de Tonnac, chief executive officer of INSIDE Secure, will participate in the ‘Security and Cyber Security Session’ as one of five panelists. He will address the need to build security into a product rather than as a ‘bolt on’. This security should be unobtrusive and transparent to end-users. De Tonnac will also discuss ‘Security Risk Assessment’. He says as nothing is 100 per cent secure. Given the time, resources and motivation, an attacker will eventually break any system. To secure a product against a specific threat, security developers need to define what needs to be protected and at what value.
“There are no silver bullets for good security,” said Remy de Tonnac, CEO at INSIDE Secure. “Many security companies continue to promote the idea of a ‘silver bullet’— a single-serving solution for any and all security problems. There are numerous avenues for attack(1) and that they can differ depending on who is behind them and what they seek.”
During his presentation, de Tonnac will also discuss ‘Secure IoT: when toasters, cars, and coffee machines attack’. The key takeaway de Tonnac advocates is that we are not yet ready to secure all of our devices, whether we are talking about household appliances, medical devices or cars. “But we need to be ready for new kind of threats here,” he stresses.

Prior to being appointed CEO of INSIDE Secure in 2006, Remy de Tonnac was a Venture Partner at Vertex Venture Capital in London. He represented Vertex at numerous technology companies in the firm's portfolio and served as chairman of the supervisory board from 2002 to 2006. Before that, de Tonnac fulfilled several management roles at Gemplus, having joined the smart card provider at its founding in 1987. He initially oversaw sales and marketing operations in France, before becoming chief executive officer for the Asia-Pacific region from 1992 to 1999, a position that was based in Singapore. He then moved to San Francisco to fulfill the same function for the Americas. He was also a member of the Gemplus Group's executive committee from 1995 to 2001. He began his career as a technical sales engineer at Compagnie Generale des Eaux (French water company) in 1982, before moving to Thomson Semiconducteurs (which became SGS-Thomson and is now known as STMicroelectronics). There he performed various manufacturing, planning and marketing-related duties. Remy is a graduate of Lille's Ecole Centrale and holds a degree in economics from Lille University.
