Opengear solutions also provide secure access to perform in-depth diagnostics and troubleshooting
Opengear enables Layer42 Networks to monitor its distributed IT infrastructure equipment including core switches

Opengear (www.opengear.com), a leading provider of critical infrastructure management solutions, recently announced that Layer42 Networks has deployed the company’s cellular out-of-band solutions to assure Internet connectivity and co-location services worldwide. With Opengear’s IM4200 & ACM5000 cellular out-of-band management solutions, Layer42 Networks now has a flexible and secure method for its IT staff to connect to distributed remote locations independently of a primary network connection, thereby eliminating the need for on-site technician visits.

When analysing solutions to make their data centres run more efficiently, Layer42 Networks had a list of requirements that needed to be met. The solution needed to remotely provide direct serial management connection to all of its geographically distributed data centre servers and equipment, leverage immediate remote server troubleshooting and response without “remote hands” and data centre service fees, gain remote visibility using cost-effective cellular out-of-band access, and offer a wide variety of form factors to serve both small and large installations.

“Deploying nearly 30 ACM5004-G/GV and several IM4200 advanced console servers, has improved our network management capabilities and given us secure remote connectivity to our networking equipment via cellular out-of-band access,” said Dan Fitzpatrick, COO, Layer42 Networks. “The amount of money we have saved in data centre service fees alone has been tremendous.”

Opengear enables Layer42 Networks to monitor its distributed IT infrastructure equipment including core switches, routers, access points, firewalls, load balancers and servers, and provides a unique ability to automate power reboots and manage UPS systems. Opengear solutions also provide secure access to perform in-depth diagnostics and troubleshooting within seconds of an incident, before it affects productivity at the remote site.

“Carrier-class data centre customers expect carrier-class business continuity solutions to meet the demanding needs of their clients,” said Todd Rychecky, vice president of sales, Opengear.  “By deploying our cellular out-of-band products, Layer42 Networks leverages the flexibility of our platform to gain a competitive edge in the business of high availability networks.”
