In the highly competitive world of motor sport a video system is now a vital aid to saving time and getting ahead. Besides fast vehicles and skilled drivers, a winning team also needs ultra efficient pit stops. There is little point in gaining precious seconds on the race track if they are then lost in the pits because workshop procedures are not as fine-tuned as the car. This is why the Black Falcon GT3 team which is based at the German Nürburgring circuit uses a Geutebruck mobile video system to watch, record and analyse everything they do.

Quick and easy to assemble and dismantle for each event, their tailor-made video solution provides the high quality pictures they need. Cameras mounted inside the workshop area, as well as those mounted on the building overlooking the pit lane, use an existing data network to transmit live video to the VIP lounge and to the display station in the team bus.

Tim Scheerbarth, current holder of the Nürburgring Promoters’ Association long distance championship and winner of the 2012 ADAC 24-hour race, is delighted that he and his team benefits from this technology. “Several times in the last year the Geutebruck system has enabled the team to gain time advantages on the track just from improved teamwork in the pit,” he reports.

From their vantage point three TopLine cameras and a dome camera look down on the cars approaching the pit, those being worked on, and those accelerating away to rejoin the race. Whether it’s a tyre-change, a driver change-over or an unplanned repair, it is all recorded in detail from several different angles. These recordings, together with those from cameras inside the pit enable efficient management of the mechanical support services during a race as well as detailed after-event analysis to improve pit operations for the future.
