High profile speaker content

Many high profile speakers from within the region are participating in the conference, including Blaz Svilicic, Head of Production Division, AKD, D.O.O, Croatia.

Blaz gives us an idea of AKD's role in the development of the Croatian e-ID card and what is next for security printing in the region in the interview below:

The last Security Printing conference took place in January 2010. What technological progress have you witnessed over the last twelve months and what progress do you expect to see in this year's programme?

Main developments were done in the field of electronic (virtual) identity and electronic security. Relevant institutions are working hard to deliver new standards and industry is trying to follow.

Many European countries failed to introduce 2nd generation ePassport till EU deadline but ICAO is already finishing specifications for the 3rd generation. EAC is also great challenge for all counties. We are looking at the first pilot projects with e-Gate on the border crossings and trying to imagine fully automated biometrics-based passport control.

eID projects are also ramping up - we are getting electronic medical prescriptions, we are voting and filling our tax forms online - and all interoperable.

We are all eager to see what the other ones are doing and what problems they encounter.

Why did you decide to speak at the Security Printing 2011 conference and what are you most looking forward to about the conference?

PIRA Security printing conferences are always gathering respectable names from the industry and generally they are not commercial. Therefore I think they are a good place to meet with colleagues and business partners and exchange knowledge.
