CEM’s AC2000 provided Aycliffe with a highly secure solution which not only met their requirements for access control but also reduced the cost of the project and helped to improve efficiency through integrations, leaving staff free to look after residents in a secure environment.
Introduction
The crux of Aycliffe’s business is based on its ability to provide a safe and secure environment for its young residents who are between the ages of 11 and 17. The facility offers high quality, secure accommodation, as well as education and assessment prior to the reintegration of adolescent individuals back into the community.
The challenge was to supply a system which could secure and enhance the facility, providing a powerful integrated solution which could offer high redundancy and the flexibility to be used throughout the facility. AC2000 was selected for the project and was installed by CEM Approved Reseller, ADT Fire & Security UK.
Solution
Meeting Business Requirements with AC2000 CEM worked closely with ADT and Aycliffe to ensure the best solution was installed to match Aycliffe’s specific business requirements. CEM’s AC2000 was chosen because it is a powerful and fully integrated security management system, ideal for securing large facilities such as Aycliffe, offering powerful access control, alarm processing, photo badging and integration to third party systems.

Powerful software modules
In addition to the core CEM AC2000 SMS, CEM’s AC2000 AED (Alarm Event Display) application has been deployed to run on the management platform. AC2000 AED provides a graphical and textual representation of the status of all alarms and events across the entire system. The application responds to all alarm situations in real time providing a dynamic onscreen interface to external CCTV systems. At Aycliffe, AED is used in conjunction with the AC2000 video interface for Synectics, providing the ability to associate access control alarms with Synectics digital video footage.
Aycliffe opted to install AC2000 Failover, a module which creates and maintains a duplicate of the main AC2000 server on another machine. Should the main AC2000 server fail, the Failover server takes over immediately with no need for administrators to intervene, providing optimum peace of mind in high security environments.
High security solution
Utilising a sophisticated multi door interlocking system created by CEM, Aycliffe has increased security by preprogramming, managing and authenticating access to specific areas, ensuring certain doors are locked before others can be opened. This ensures only those with the specific card privileges can move throughout the building at ease, ensuring all infringements are flagged to the operations team and any issues are handled effectively.
Fully integrated biometrics
Given Aycliffe’s focus on providing the utmost security for its residents, CEM’s S610f biometric fingerprint readers have been used to secure heavily restricted areas throughout the facility. The S610f is a fully integrated biometric and access control reader that is used to control access to restricted areas. These restricted areas are managed and monitored by security staff centrally using AC2000. This streamlines operations in the event of suspicious activity to mitigate risk to residents.
Beyond access control
Using CEM’s DCM (Door Control Module), personnel at the facility have been given the ability to switch frosted glass in private areas to clear glass, by simply presenting their card at the relevant reader. This allows the residents to enjoy privacy while providing the necessary visibility to staff when appropriate; ensuring the safety of the residents is maintained.
