The CEM AC2000 SE system, which offers Glasgow's hospitals an effective IP solution utilising the existing network structure
CEM Systems' highly integrated security solution will help protect staff, patients and the hospital equipment and premises

CEM Systems, a Tyco International company, has supplied a fully-integrated IP security solution at Glasgow's new £100m Stobhill and Victoria hospitals. The industry-renowned CEM AC2000 SE (Standard Edition) system was installed by ADT Fire & Security to secure each of the state-of-the-art facilities.

As part of a prestigious public/private sector partnership project, the new ambulatory care hospitals at Victoria and Stobhill represent a significant investment in National Health Services (NHS) and will mark a new era in UK patient care. Two of Scotland's largest hospitals, Victoria and Stobhill, will each feature four floors covering 30,000 square metres and will provide care for 400,000 patients.

CEM Systems has provided the hospitals with a fully integrated IP based security solution using AC2000 SE and EtherProx card readers. AC2000 SE offers the hospitals a flexible and versatile solution. The hospitals will be taking advantage of the numerous AC2000 SE software modules including AC2000 Visitor module - a powerful tool used to monitor and control access for temporary cardholders. Access points will be secured using CEM EtherProx readers which provide an in-built database for off-line card validation, keypad for added PIN security and Backlit LCD showing easy-to-understand messages for the cardholder.

The CEM AC2000 SE system offers fully integrated access control, alarm processing, and photo badging security system

Significant cost savings were made throughout the project using the industry first, CEM's DIU 220 (high power POE+ door interface unit). The key benefit of this unit is that it eliminates the need for both a mains connection and a local power supply to the door. The DIU 220 supplies enough power via the same Ethernet (Cat 5e/6) cable that is used for reader communications to supply power for the readers/DIU and more importantly to reliably power a heavy-duty Maglock securing the door. In addition to reducing the cost of the electrical infrastructure, the DIU installation is classed as low voltage and can be completed by IT network installers without the expense of an electrician or electrical contractor.

"ADT recognised the novel technical approach of the CEM AC2000 SE solution; we implemented a high-speed fibre-optic IP network to enable delivery of fully integrated IP security consisting of access control, CCTV and intruder systems, all integrated via the AC2000 front-end software," said Martin Bell, Integrated Solutions Group account manager for ADT Glasgow. "In addition, Forth Electrical Services, the electrical contractor on this project, had the foresight to agree to the implementation of an industry-first PoE+ solution, providing project savings as well as simplifying the installation."

Working with ADT, CEM Systems provided a highly integrated security solution which will help to protect staff, patients and the hospital equipment and premises. The CEM AC2000 SE system offers fully integrated access control, alarm processing, and photo badging security system that has been installed at facilities around the world where security is of paramount importance. Boasting a sophisticated suite of software modules, AC2000 SE offers the new hospitals every operational application needed to secure their environment, from professional staff ID badging to integrated DVR/CCTV control and central alarm monitoring using AC2000 AED (Alarm Event Display), and more.
