RISCO’s SynopSYS displays real-time status of all security devices via intuitive synoptic maps
RISCO Group's SynopSYS allows easy integration with intrusion detection, access control, video monitoring, and fire systems

East Surrey College is a further education college in Redhill, UK that caters to over 9000 students. The college’s new state-of-the-art campus features a wealth of facilities including a two-storey Learning Resource Centre, an indoor Winter Garden and indoor sports facilities including a full size sports hall and fitness room.

The challenge

East Surrey College had security systems installed, with over 400 intruder detectors. Lacking was a centralised management system that delivered a real-time picture of the entire facilities. The College Facilities Manager could not verify alarms from a single platform or location. This was problematic, particularly in the event of false alarms. East Surrey College required a flexible fully integrated management platform to control and monitor all the security devices installed from a single graphical user interface. The solution would also have to enable the Facilities Manager to view and verify system functions, generate event reports, inhibit or override detectors and control authorisations, all from one security management platform.

The solution

ADT, the integrator at East Surrey College chose RISCO Group’s SynopSYS Integrated Security & Building Management Software as the solution that met all requirements. The graphical user interface displays the real time status of all security devices installed on the main campus via intuitive synoptic maps.

The platform is managed from a single user interface installed on a dedicated PC located in the Facilities Managers office. The system enables the Facilities Manager to monitor and control the campus’s security system containing over 400 intruder detectors. Using SynopSYS Integrated Security & Building Management, the Facilities Manager can identify and navigate to tripped detectors, as well as quickly locate open doors and windows.

The system is extremely flexible, its open platform allowing for easy integration not only with intrusion detection systems, but also with access control, video monitoring, fire systems, as well as HVAC, lighting, and elevator control.

Highlights

  • Enables control and management of the campus's security systems with over 400 detectors.
  • Displays real-time status of all security devices via intuitive synoptic maps.
  • The system is managed from a single user interface located in the Facilities Manager’s office.
  • The system is extremely flexible and easy to operate.

The customer’s point of view

The Facilities Manager at East Surrey College is extremely satisfied with the performance of the solution noting, “We have found it to be very helpful, particularly in its flexibility to be customised according to our operational requirements. The efficiency and prompt response of RISCO’s technical support has been very good.”

Furthermore, integrator ADT commented, “We chose the platform after seeing the benefits of the software giving us real time information about the system. SynopSYS Integrated Security & Building Management is a good addition to the overall building management. It has really helped everybody.”
