The ISONAS system provides ability for assigning access permissions on door-by-door basis for individuals or groups |
Since its establishment in 2004, Heart 'n Home Hospice & Palliative Care has optimised the quality of life for individuals in the final stages of terminal illness. Heart 'n Home has become the leading hospice provider in Idaho and Eastern Oregon, having served over 2,500 patients since opening in March of 2004. In addition to the original office in Fruitland, the Company has grown to five total facilities with additional locations in Caldwell, Emmett, and Meridian, Idaho as well as in Baker City, Oregon.
The Heart 'n Home Chief Medical Officer, Paul C. Gering, M.D. is a Board Certified Palliative Care Physician, leads a medical staff that includes over 140 full and part-time personnel with over 700 years of combined nursing experience, including multiple Certified Hospice and Palliative Care nurses and nursing assistants. The mission of Heart ‘n Home is to affirm life by providing emotional, physical and spiritual support to their patients and to those who love and care for them.
Re-keying costs - a growing issue
Heart 'n Home’s multiple employees and volunteers need access to the Company’s various offices and spaces within those facilities on widely differing schedules. Additionally one of the community outreach functions of Heart 'n Home is to provide meeting space for a variety of community groups on an as-needed basis.
In the past, providing access to the locations appropriate to specific individuals on either a permanent basis; as in the case for staff members or on a temporary basis for volunteers, visiting nurses from other facilities, or community members created a challenge in managing the distribution and retrieval of keys in a constantly changing mix of visitors and schedules. Re-keying costs were also a growing issue.
Ability to know who entered facility and when
Management decided that a potential solution was an electronic access control system that would allow the assignment of credentials to individuals on either a permanent basis for full-time employees, or on a temporary basis for people who have short-term requirements for access to Company facilities. The solution was an access control system from ISONAS, Inc.
Alex Korotkih, Network Manager at Heart ‘n Home chose the ISONAS PowerNet™ system for several reasons. “Not only does it provide the ability for assigning access permissions on a door-by-door basis for individuals or groups, the ISONAS system also provides management with the ability to know who entered a particular facility when. We now have greater control over all aspects of building security with much less management time involved”, says Mr. Korotkih.
Cost-effective facility security and control
The system was also attractive to Heart ‘n Home due to the lack of old-style control panels necessary for installation in alternative access control systems. “We wanted the flexibility to install the system ourselves both during the initial installation 5 years ago at our primary location in Fruitland, as well as in our outlying locations as we expanded in the future,” states Mr. Korotkih. “We have added one of our other locations to the system so far and we manage both facilities from our headquarters location with ease.”
The ISONAS system had provided significantly better facility security and control at the most affordable cost available in the industry for a growing healthcare company.
