CORMORANT voice and data solution enhances security and is trusted by professionals

Cassidian announced at this year's DSEi exhibition and show that CORMORANT service contract between Cassidian and the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been extended to December 2012. This deployable, modular LAN / WAN voice and data solution was originally delivered to two Royal Signals Units for use at the strategic command level. Since this initial delivery, demand for CORMORANT has seen other Units take delivery of CORMORANT.  Not only has the footprint expanded but importantly CORMORANT is now being used for tactical command purposes by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Army.

CORMORANT has been deployed to Iraq where it gained a reputation for being a trusted and secure communication system. Following on from that success, CORMORANT has been extensively used by the RAF to support operations in Libya and Afghanistan.

This Through Life Support (TLS) contract includes Cassidian resident field engineers, 24/7 technical helpdesk and a dedicated repairs centre to assist the MoD with the operation and maintenance of the system.

Mike Simms, VP of Key Accounts at Cassidian commented: "I think this extension to the contract is testament of a relationship where a trusted solution enables the professionals to carry out operations to the best of their abilities."

Dave Openshaw, MOD Networks Project Team, commented: "Cormorant has proved to be a really flexible asset and is providing a key capability in frontline operations in roles beyond those it was originally envisaged to perform. By supporting the RAF's Ellamy campaign from Gioia del Colle, Cormorant has proven to be a strategic enabler as well as critical in-theatre support."
