TETRA academy supported by Cassidian is first of its kind in the Middle East and has proved useful |
Cassidian and the Ministry of Interior (Mol) of the State of Qatar have opened a jointly operated and expanded TETRA Academy in Doha. Established under the aegis of the Minister of State for Interior Affairs H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani, it is the first of its kind in the Middle East. It is located at the brand new MoI Telecom Department complex. The MoI uses the TETRA Academy to train engineers for its Telecommunication Department.
In addition, TETRA training classes are provided for regional customers who are operating Cassidian-delivered TETRA networks. Franz Peraus, Head of Cassidian Middle East, stated: "This first TETRA Academy in the Middle East has proven its immense value to the MoI Telecom Department right from its inception in Summer 2009. With 70 students being trained in various disciplines, this is an essential step in building both theoretical and practical know-how locally for operating the Qatar TETRA network. Catering for increasing regional demand from outside Qatar, the expanded TETRA Academy inaugurated at the brand-new MoI Competence Centre facility offers a greatly enhanced learning experience that we are very excited about."
Brigadier Eng. Ali Al-Henzab, Director of the Telecom Department of the MoI of the State of Qatar, commented: "We are delighted to open our new Telecom Department facility, accommodating the expanded TETRA Academy. The outstanding results achieved so far in enabling our engineering teams to self-sufficiently master the challenges associated with existing TETRA network operations have motivated us to invest in improving the learning environment still further."
Cassidian delivered the TETRA equipment which the Competence Centre needed in order to set up the TETRA Academy. Trainers from Cassidian transfer the required technical know-how to the MoI teams. In addition, training services are jointly offered to regional customers. Cassidian established a similar TETRA Academy at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in 2010.
