IP communication radios from EADS assist Brazil Police
EADS Defence & Security have provided DPF with a digital TETRAPOL IP radio communication system

  • TETRAPOL standard to cover the metropolitan area of Fortaleza and the main cities of Ceara State
  • Supply of state-of-the-art TETRAPOL IP technology with full support to voice and data communications

EADS Defence and Security has announced the inauguration of the successfully deployed TETRAPOL IP radio communication network to secure the operations of the Brazilian Federal Police (DPF) in the state of Ceara, Brazil.

The honourable speakers of DPF, Dr. Aldair da Rocha and Dr. Fabiano Mendes Fernandes, have inaugurated the advanced communication system on August 24, in a ceremony in Fortaleza/Ceara, in the presence of senior DPF officials and senior security officers of the Government of the State of Ceara.

This TETRAPOL network is part of the INTEGRAPOL National DPF Network within the PRÓ-AMAZÔNIA/PROAMOTEC programme. This programme is the result of an agreement concluded in Brasília on March 12, 1997, by the French and the Brazilian governments on the occasion of an intergovernmental co-operation programme (Bilateral agreement).

The TETRAPOL IP network delivered by EADS Defence & Security provides advanced secure encrypted digital communication for voice and data. In particular, the integration of all DPF units to the Brazilian States Public Safety Forces to further improve their operational efficiency and their services to the Brazilian citizens, is becoming the cornerstone of the integrated communication model for the national public safety to face the challenges of large events ahead (mainly FIFA World Cup 2014 and Olympics 2016).

The complete INTEGRAPOL network is composed of 9 regional networks based on TETRAPOL IP with 27 tactical management sites, 100 fixed base stations and 220 independent digital repeaters to provide service for around 9000 terminals.

EADS Defence & Security have provided DPF with a digital TETRAPOL IP radio communication system that enables strong encryption schemes for voice and data communication that are secure from eavesdropping. It also enables GPS-based automatic vehicle and person location, and allows its users to securely access databases while on the move.

"With this new modern digital highly encrypted communication system in place, DPF wants to secure all the communications among its officers during the critical operations. Before that, we were subject to eavesdropping from anybody. Now, it will be practically impossible to have our sensitive information going out of our control and we have significantly improved the overall security of all our operations in the terrain," said Dr. Fabiano Mendes Fernandes.

"The TETRAPOL IP radio communication system for the Brazilian Federal Police is a very differentiated one, mainly due to the high Integration capabilities it brings in the context of the national public safety policy of the Ministry of Justice. With the support of DPF, the state of Ceara is in a strong position to contract leading-edge voice & data solutions and build the first real reference in the country under the concept of Full-circle Security," said Dirk Borchardt, CEO of the Security & Communication Solutions line of business.
