Cassidian is participating in the European R&D project named CarCoDe (car-to-Car Content Delivery) aimed at developing a platform for “smart car-to-car content”. The primary objective is to create a system-independent automotive software platform enabling the exchange of real-time automotive information (e.g. the water reserve status of fire engines, fleet planning information for taxis or car sharing companies, maintenance diagnostics for public transport, etc.). Cassidian is working on different emergency scenarios in order to introduce new services, such as remote diagnosis, crisis monitoring and best route information, for police cars, ambulances or fire engines, for instance.

CarCoDe is labelled within the ITEA 2 programme and supported through partial funding by public authorities. The project will last until August 2015 and involves 21 partners. The CarCoDe vision is to reduce communication costs and data redundancy in real-time content sharing, taking into account the different needs and constraints in the automotive application domain. This includes enhancing in-vehicle networks and infotainment systems, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) applications and suitable existing sensors in the car, as well as identifying suitable transmission technologies.

Among the areas in which R&D is taking place, the project teams are working on means of allowing the exchange of information between public safety vehicles, in order to be able to share a common operational picture. On-board equipment and vehicle status monitoring in the car provide real-time information, for instance on water pressure, water flow, water supply, fuel supply, oxygen level or the geo-location of the car. This will allow real-time monitoring or remote control of the vehicle, for example in order to stop a stolen vehicle, from a control room. In addition, the network will provide access to existing car facilities and information (camera, engine and infotainment) for public safety usage.
