Napolitano wil receive the Fred. V Morrone 9/11 Memorial Award

The Security Industry Association (SIA) and the InterPort Police-International Association of Airport & Seaport Police will honour Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Janet Napolitano at the Security Week Gala on November 2, 2011 in New York City.

Napolitano will receive the Fred V. Morrone 9/11 Memorial Award in recognition of her leadership and efforts to protect the country from threats that range from terrorism to natural disasters. The award is named for the late superintendent of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department, the highest-ranking of 37 Port Authority officers to perish at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Napolitano is the third Secretary of DHS. To counter the threat of terrorism, she has forged new partnerships with international allies and expanded information sharing with federal, state and local law enforcement - building a collaborative effort to detect and disrupt threats early on. She will be the fifth recipient of this prestigious award.

"We are honoured to have Secretary Napolitano at the Security Week Gala," said Gordon Hope, Chairman of SIA's Board of Directors. "Her longstanding contributions to securing our nation are recognised and appreciated by the security industry."

The Morrone award is presented annually at the Security Week Gala as part of Security Week, an all-in-one security event in New York that incorporates ISC Solutions, Securing New Ground, Security 500 and the Gala. This year's Security Week will occur Nov. 1-3. At the Gala, SIA will also present the George R. Lippert Memorial Award to Steven Roth, CEO, Tri-Ed/Northern Video Systems, for his outstanding contributions to SIA and the security industry.

"Security Week will shine a spotlight on the men and women whose focus on keeping us safe is directly in line with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's mission," said Ed Several, Sr. VP & General Manager, ISC portfolio of events. "It is a great honour to welcome Janet Napolitano to New York to accept the Morrone 9/ll Memorial Award as part of the Security Week Gala. The Secretary's presence offers an enduring reminder of the importance of this industry's work."

The Gala will be held from 7:00-10:00 p.m. on November 2, 2011 at the Lighthouse on Chelsea Pier 61, New York.
