Tailgate detector
The NPS award is the 4th award the tailgate detector has won over the past year

Sensing specialist IEE was honoured with the best access control product award for its tailgate detector TDflex, an innovative access control solution based on 3D technology, at ISC West.

The New Product Showcase (NPS), sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA), is held annually in conjunction with ISC West in Las Vegas to recognise the best security product innovations. This year's competition included 85 new products and services. There were 20 judges representing various segments of the industry viewing presentations by entrants. Judges also reviewed written materials and, in many cases, visited the ISC West booths of the entrants to study the products more closely.

Award-winning product features

TDflex was selected from a group of nine access control products representing some of the best new products introduced over the past year. The judges were particularly impressed by the uniqueness and reliability of the anti-tailgating features offered by the system, as well as the customisable nature of the detection strategy settings, which can be selected by the customer and which range from high security (allowing no crowding in the detection area), to high throughput (for high-traffic locations, allowing crowding and consecutive badging).

How the Taligate Detector TDflex works

Typically mounted above secured access points such as doors and turnstiles, TDflex is integrated into existing infrastructure, and provides an additional security layer to access control systems. TDflex intercepts the signal emitted from an ID reader (badge system, RFID, biometrics), establishes whether a single individual is attempting entry, and detects their direction of movement. In the event of dual or unauthorised entry, TDflex triggers an alarm or blocks access points.

Four awards in a row

With consistently high reliability, the tailgate detector offers an enhanced accuracy solution compared to laser or video-based products currently on the market, and offers additional functionalities such as bi-directional people counting and occupancy monitoring.

The NPS award is the 4th award the tailgate detector has won over the past year. Last October, TDflex was awarded the security innovation award by the Security Essen show in Germany. In November 2010, TDflex received the government security news (GSN) homeland security award for best physical security authentication/identification system, as well as the innovation prize in the category business development by Fedil, Business Federation Luxembourg.
