Dedicated Micros confirmed its support for the British Government's decision to appoint an interim CCTV Regulator
CCTV specialist Dedicated Micros - part of AD Group - has confirmed its support for the British Government's decision to appoint an interim CCTV Regulator, alongside a National Oversight Body for CCTV and an Independent Advisory Group.

The steps, which were announced by David Hanson, the Policing Minister, in a Written Ministerial Statement (WMS) to Parliament on Wednesday (15th December), are designed to deliver key elements of the National CCTV Strategy, in particular, with regards to the governance and use of CCTV for public space surveillance in the UK; the enforcement of CCTV standards and the promotion of enhanced relationships between key stakeholders such as users, manufacturers and universities.

The interim CCTV Regulator - who is the Forensic Science Regulator - will be tasked, over the next 12 months, with providing ministers with recommendations on the regulation of CCTV, guidance on CCTV standards and a structure for the effective handling of complaints.

Said Nigel Petrie, Chairman of Dedicated Micros: "As a leading manufacturer of CCTV equipment we have been a long-term advocate of effective CCTV standards and best practice through our work with industry bodies, such as the BSIA, and are in full agreement with the Government's move to establish an interim CCTV Regulator, a National Oversight Body and an Independent Advisory Group."

"Anything which can act as a central focus for CCTV in Britain, and so encourage its effective application, maintain public confidence in the technology and facilitate considered analysis and debate on its use, has to be welcomed. We will certainly be taking a keen interest in future developments and, from a manufacturer's perspective, stand ready to assist the interim CCTV Regulator and the other implementation elements of the National CCTV Strategy."
