Dedicated Micros, working together with Gardiner Security, has delivered an advanced CCTV solution to provide effective security for ITV Granada in Manchester, home to Coronation Street one of the UK's favourite soap operas.

The project called for four of the latest NetVu Connected Digital Sprite 2 network capable DVRs featuring NetVu ObserVer software, four Dennard 2060 outdoor dome cameras which feature vandal resistant, environmentally protected enclosures - with more to follow shortly - and a KBS3A remote digital keyboard.

A key feature of the DS2 units installed at ITV Granada is the flexibility provided by their powerful multimode recording capability which allows ‘dynamic switching' from MPEG4, low resolution continuous information grade recording, to high resolution evidential quality JPEG images on alarm while still streaming in either format from the same camera.

Said Scott Jones, Field Sales Executive, Dedicated Micros: "Our no nonsense approach to usability was one of the critical factors which won the day for us with the ITV Granada project.  The new multimode capable DS2 units combined with the multi-viewer software - NetVu ObserVer - were perfect for this application. In addition the one common keyboard switching between all machines and cameras was well received by the guards."

The KBS3A remote keyboard with all-important PTZ control, situated in the Gate House at ITV Granada, is able to communicate with the rack-mounted DS2 DVRs over a 485-bus connection.  This makes it an ideal choice for applications - as is the case here - where the DVRs are actually located some distance from the keyboard.

Commented Stuart Wynne, Security and Transport Manager, ITV Granada: "When it comes to CCTV it is important that we have the equipment in place which allows our staff to identify and deal with incidents as effectively as possible."

"We are extremely pleased with the new CCTV systems supplied by Dedicated Micros and Gardiner Security, particularly the keyboard/joystick operation and the ease of use of the NetVu ObserVer GUI (Graphic User Interface).  This contrasts with our previous solution which operators found impractical to use due to the multi-mouse operation of the software, making it very difficult to track suspicious activity through the cameras."
