The Challenge

The London Aquarium and County Hall - formerly the London GLC building - have upgraded their interlinked CCTV control systems with Dedicated Micros digital multiplex recorders.

Located on the south bank of the Thames, the buildings are now using five Digital Sprites in conjunction with 75 video cameras covering the County Hall's two miles of corridors and leisure facilities; which include the London Aquarium, Dali Universe exhibition, Namco Station pleasure dome and several restaurants.

The Solution

A standalone Digital Sprite unit has also been installed to manage the security cameras above cash tills in the Aquarium.  Dean Hawkins, national sales manager at installers, Visual-Tech Installations (VTI), explains the various benefits of the new system for County Hall

"As one of London's busiest tourist attractions fast, simple access to recorded images was essential, and with such a variety of leisure facilities needing security coverage, flexibility was also key."  Digital Sprite enables security staff to operate from three remote keyboard locations in the Aquarium entrance and the security management office via fibre optic controls.  Cameras covering the adjacent Marriott Hotel, though part of a separate installation are also integrated with County Hall's digital monitoring system.

Pauline Norstrom, Dedicated Micros' Marketing Manager, says: "The scalability of Digital Sprite provides the perfect solution for such a high profile location"
