CSL DualCom’s Simon Banks informed the listeners on the latest DualCom developments
Around 40 seniors insurers received the latest updates given by a broad spectrum of speakers

For the third consecutive year, CSL DualCom hosted the annual Insurance Risk Management Forum at their business partner Vodafone’s HQ. Some forty Senior Insurers received the latest updates given by a broad spectrum of speakers from every aspect of the Security Industry as well as an exclusive tour of the Vodafone Network Operation Centre.

Presentations included an update from Ray Kay, General Manager at Vodafone M2M on the recent developments made to the Vodafone Network. Ray reassured Insurers of the longevity and resilience of the GPRS network.

Rob Dakin of AXA Insurance added his voice to the debate on the proposed LPS1277 standard and weighed up the pros and cons of IP signalling. He concluded that traditional signalling methods are still endowed with confidence and very much the signalling of choice for top Insurers.

Company Directors, Andy Rees of Absolute Security and Ian Campbell of G4S invited the audience to explore the challenges faced daily by ARCs and Installers alike. In particular Andy provided a valuable insight on NGNs and IP signalling from an Installers perspective, advocating that although there is a place for IP signalling on CCTV installations the integrity of IT equipment brings into question the appropriateness of the use of it for signalling. On the subject of NGNs it was clear that confusion reigns about which systems will or will not work on fibre and the trend for copper cable theft fuels these concerns further. Dave Wilkinson of the BSIA added to the NGN debate providing the official view of the BSIA as well as supplying updates on recent amendments to Industry standards. Richard Sweetman who attended from Kelvedon Risk Consulting Ltd added ‘The CSL forum was very well organised with useful updates, they helped me out only a few days later when I was talking to a number of underwriters.’

The morning also included presentations from the Fire Industry Association and the London Fire Brigade supporting the reduction of False Alarms and the use of monitored systems for Fire to aid with this. Finally CSL DualCom’s Simon Banks informed the listeners on the latest DualCom developments as well as a detailed look at the depth of data obtained from the DualCom Gemini Network that is used to proactively manage installed systems. Simon also contributed to the current debate on Grade for Grade signalling replacements which included a statement from the BSIA stating their acceptance for Installers to fit a Grade 3 dual signalling product in place of a Grade 4 single path signalling product.

On attending the day Terry Price of  Insurer, NFU Mutual observed that  ‘The forum was a great success and very well organised - not many Companies bother with things like this anymore and hence I am highly appreciative of the amount of time and effort CSL put into the organising.’
