A charity day hosted by Conway Security Products at the Weston Turville Golf Course near Aylesbury raised £4,000 for the John Watson School in Wheatley, Oxfordshire. In its seventh year now, the day has raised a total of £20,000.
The John Watson School is a facility for children with learning difficulties aged 2 - 16. It is committed to offering children opportunities to integrate educationally and socially in the mainstream schools of Wheatley. Whenever students show special aptitude in a subject, they are able to follow a mainstream course while still receiving tailored support from the John Watson School in areas of learning they find difficult.
Golfers included CCTV manufacturers, installers and distributors. The money raised will fund an interactive white board ('Smartboard') for Key Stage Two pupils. Similar equipment has proved a boon in the secondary department of the school and can be set up permanently since it uses rear projection. Students can use it in breaks and have even been known to download music and enjoy an impromptu disco entirely on their own initiative!
Sally Withey, head teacher at the John Watson School, said: "Whilst we have benefited from the government's increased spending on education through the budget allocated to us by Oxfordshire County Council, events like this are crucial in allowing us to give children the best facilities with which to develop their talent."
