| Lawmakers receive awards at the Security Industry Association Public Policy Dinner, Government Summit |
Towns chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, a panel that has jurisdiction over the General Services Administration, as well as issues related to identity management, federal contracting and government spending. He was honoured at SIA's annual Public Policy Dinner for "his efforts to save taxpayer dollars, reduce red tape for businesses and ensure the delivery of life safety and homeland security solutions to cities, counties, towns, public schools and colleges across the United States."
At the same event, Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., was presented with SIA's Global Security Leadership Award for his efforts to enact the Agricultural Business Security Tax Credit Act, legislation that provided tax credits to agribusinesses to help them purchase electronic physical security equipment.
The Public Policy Dinner was held in conjunction with SIA's June 2-3 Government Summit. During Tuesday's session of the Summit, SIA presented Global Security Leadership Awards to Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., both of whom serve on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Cummings was recognised specifically for his support for the Port Security Grant Program, Issa for his efforts to enact procurement reform.
"Congressman Towns, Senator Nelson, Congressman Cummings and Congressman Issa are true leaders on security issues," SIA Director of Government Relations Don Erickson said. "It has been our privilege to work with them over the years and see their dedication to securing the lives and property of Americans."
SIA presented Jay Hauhn, vice president for technology and industry relations for ADT, with its Statesman Award at the Public Policy Dinner for his advocacy efforts on behalf of the security industry. Hauhn is a member of SIA's Board of Directors and its Government Relations Committee.
