QNAP Security, a professional Linux-based stand-alone NVR provider, recently announced new VioStor NVR firmware v4.1.0, introducing storage expansion solution, smart recording, user-defined multi-stream setup, and more.

“VioStor NVR firmware v4.1.0 provides a great solution to expand the storage capacity of VioStor NVR with QNAP Turbo NAS,” said Andrew Yu, product manager of QNAP Security. By installing the Storage Expansion app (QPKG) on the Turbo NAS, administrators can connect the VioStor NVR with the Turbo NAS via network to flexibly enlarge the total storage capacity of VioStor NVR. “The increasing demands for Full HD video recording and long-term video retention result in greater storage needs, and this storage expansion solution is provided right to fulfil that need,” added Yu.

The smart recording feature selects optimal video streams from IP cameras for different recording scenarios. In normal situation, video recording uses streams of lower quality resolution, while in alarm events, it switches to high quality resolution to capture more details. In other words, smart recording effectively avoids the constant storage consumption at all time, but achieves greater storage efficiency and boost recording quality when alarm events happen. “With the smart recording function, organisations can enjoy the benefits of lower storage cost and higher recording quality of alarm events for evidential purposes,” said Yu.

In addition, administrators can now flexibly define compression rate, resolution, fps, and quality settings for multiple video streams (supported by specific camera models) according to bandwidth resources and number of live-view channels, and then choose a proper video stream for live-view. The adjustable video stream setting helps improve the displaying quality of live-view and well manage the bandwidth resources based on different usage requirements.

The VioStor NVR now is compatible with over 2,100 IP camera models of various popular brands. Businesses can enjoy high flexibility in deploying an ideal surveillance solution with the broad-ranged offering of compatible IP cameras.

With VioStor NVR firmware v4.1.0, administrators will enjoy more flexibility in storage deployment and utilisation as well as in the bandwidth resources management.
