Nedap's wireless parking sensor is praised for its "enormous potential"

Praised for offering progressive short- and long-term parking solutions for the region, the SENSIT system from Nedap AVI took home the "Innovation in Parking Award" Gulf Traffic Gala Dinner.

A highlight of the exhibition, which was held from 12 to 14 December 2011 at the Dubai International Conventional and Exhibition Centre, is the Gulf Traffic Awards, which recognise the most important innovations in infrastructure, traffic management, and parking management in the Gulf region. This year, Gulf Traffic considered 70 nominations in seven categories, all of which were judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

"We are delighted to receive this prestigious award," said Niek Bragt, General Manager of Nedap FZE. "These expert opinions go a long way to support our efforts to create innovative, accurate and reliable technology."

Anthony Pearce, a member of the judging panel, is an honorary Life Member of the International Road Federation (IRF) and senior adviser on the development of road infrastructure and transportation: "The potential of vehicle detection solutions with Nedap's SENSIT is enormous," he explained.

The SENSIT system relies on wireless parking sensors that are mounted into parking bays. These sensors relay occupancy information for each individual parking spot by using an infrared eye and a magnetic field to detect vehicle presence.

This dual-sensor technology and a special algorithm ensure high accuracy, both for motorists looking for an empty spot as well as for authorities seeking overstay detection. What's more, because it is completely wireless and easy to install, SENSIT actually reduces construction costs.

"Counting and reporting parking occupancy is not only part of greater service for motorists, but also provides organisational benefits such as effective optimisation and administration of parking spaces," Bragt comments. "This achievement motivates us to promote SENSIT in the Gulf region."
